Well, on April 1st no one took me seriously about the whole virus thing, and I thought it was over but I've been getting popups ever since. Now, I don't even have time to join a game before something pops up and minimizes Gmod, and when I finally exit out of everything and the server is joined, because Gmod was minimized the chat box won't appear. I'm sick of it, and I just want to completely restore the computer, wipe EVERYTHING off it. Is this possible?

Make a backup of your stuff, slap the OS disc in the cd-rom your PC uses for booting.
Follow instructions.

It's called formatting btw.

the chat box not appearing happens to me all the time if i alt tab while its loading just reconnect
and do what radec said lad

Okay, so I've wiped my computer back to when I first bought it, but for about a half hour now it's just said "Setup is starting services"

Windows 7, yes. I'm pretty sure something popped up about windows failing to install while I was waiting on an answer. Which version of windows 7? Not a clue.

Wiping a computer isn't too difficult. Make sure you focus on the cleaning out the area around the fan. It's okay to use cleaner as well, just don't go overboard.

"Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."
That pops up and when I hit Enter the PC restarts and it pops up again, etc. etc. etc.
Incase you guys didn't notice, I'm not in the mood for listening to wise-ass comments.

The best way to resolve any computer issues is to google it. Nine times out of ten you'll find a solution that works for you.

This. Also if installation/setup is corrupt, go torrent another one with a serial. (inb4 fbi)

Google has nothing, btw.

Windows Installation generally takes quite a while, so I wouldn't get too impatient once it begins, if it does. Dare I ask the quality of the installation disk you're using? It sounds like Whysotroll might be right, which is heavily unfortunate as Windows costs a boatload.

No disk. Just this. Over and over andover and over and over and over and over.

Hmm.. Have you completely uninstalled windows? Because it doesn't look like you have, as it's going to a normal boot screen partially. It may not be a problem with the disk as much as your hard-drive still having something windowsy on it, and hard-drives are easier to buy than Windows 7, as well as there are ways to clear it anyway.

If it can't be fixed unless I buy something, I'm just getting a new PC. I've been planning on getting a new PC for a while now.

It probably can, so I wouldn't jump the gun unless you're dead set on upgrading anyway. It depends on the amount of hassle you'd want to go through. This hassle involves boot menus, and things I wouldn't know how to do, but if all else fails my brother's a computer guy at Staples, so take what you can get.

I'm just going to list all the steps for you:

  • Restart computer.
  • During boot, watch for a dialogue prompting you to press a button to enter setup, usually DEL or ESC. Spam the fuck out of it while the PC boots. If successful, you'll be at your bios screen (usually blue or gray)
  • Find Cmos features/Advanced Bios/Boot Device priority. Every bios is different, so I cant tell you what menu/tab it's going to be under. Your'e looking for your motherboard's current boot priority. Upon finding it, you need to set it up to boot to CD first, hard disk second. Usually you change the boot priority menu options with page up and down
  • Once boot priority is changed, restart your computer again with the windows CD in the drive. When prompted, press any key to enter setup
  • Select all of the obvious options. When you get to the disk management portion of the setup, and it asks where to install windows, delete any useless partitions (assuming you don't have any other drives, that's probably all of them) and when you just have "Unallocated Space" left, install there. If you have a purpose for multiple partitions, then set them up and install to the one of your choice. Just ensure you delete everything involving the drive you are installing to before you do install.
  • Let the computer do it's shit. It'll restart and come back a few times.
  • Windows should be installed.

If somehow this fails, I would blame the CD.

And then myersguy. Myersguy everywhere.

I was about to come in here too. Myers beat me. =(

Anyways, what he said.
