"Per Mare, Per Terras, Per Constellatum."
It's the 27th year of the Human-Covenant war, and on all fronts, humanity has been losing decisively. Despite major victories like Psi Serpentis, and the reclamation of Harvest, the Covenant hold uncontested control over all space. Despite desperate measures, brilliant leaders, and high fighting spirit, the Covenant holds a numerical and technological advantage over the UNSC. It's estimated that half the human population has been killed in the Covenant's destructive glassing campaigns. By 2552, the Outer Colonies have all fallen. The UNSC Navy is on a path of continuous retreat, further and further into their own territory. The Cole Protocol has been enacted: most, if not all efforts, are dedicated to keeping the Covenant in the dark about Earth. The task grows harder every day: and now, there's reports that the Covenant are encroaching on Reach, a major asset to the UNSC war effort...

Every planet lost is a major blow to the UNSC, but, Reach is a far different case. In the Epsilon Eridani system, Reach lays as an essential piece of the UNSC's grip on the region. It's the home of the Spartan II's, and besides that, it houses a great deal of industrial capacity necessary to equipping the UNSC massive armies and outfitting its ships. Before July 19th, 2552, the Office of Naval Intelligence had calculated that there was an 87 percent chance that Reach would be found, and attacked, within the span of 5 months. It wasn't even a week when first word came.
10.5 lightyears away from Earth, Reach is on the doorstep of humanity's home. This planet is not something the UNSC can just easily abandon. The Covenant would need to fight for it. By late July, the Covenant had already established a landing point in the Viery Territory. The alarms were sounded, and Winter Contingency was activated. Hundreds of millions of soldiers all across the planet were called to attention: with more on the way. But, still, they were vastly outnumbered. The Covenant controlled the skies -- their navies dwarfed the UNSC two to one.

It's estimated that there are 385 million fighting personnel ready to go on Reach, most of which are Army. Out of 385 million men dedicated to fighting for Reach, only a fraction of that are the ones unlucky enough to be in the close vicinity of Viery Territory at time of Winter Contingency being enacted. It's not like the stories, this time. The Covenant wouldn't burn the planet to the ground with glassing beams: instead, they'd fight, man to man. The odds are stacked against the UNSC. It's been far too long since the UNSC have ever repelled a Covenant invasion successfully.
Reach is an important planet. It always has been. Holding Reach is of utmost importance to the UNSC, which is already suffering from high public unrest and food shortages all along it's core systems. But the resolve Humanity brings to the table is matched by the Covenant. Over three hundred ships linger over Reach: larger than life corvettes and supercorvettes, filled to the brim with alien soldiers that are better equipped and fanatically motivated. The Covenant will stop at nothing short of genocide for the Human race. Rolling over on Reach and abandoning it is not an option.
Setting: July, 2552: On the major planet of Reach, in UNSC territory, shortly after Winter Contingency was called and UNSC forces were put on high alert due to Covenant forces being sighted embedded deep in the Viery Territory. In the Fall of Reach RR, people are limited to one faction: The UNSC Army. But, in the Army, are multiple different skillsets, (ie. Army medics, engineers, etc.)
Throughout the entire RR, the UNSC would continuously be on it's back foot against a technologically and numerically superior enemy, forced to adapt new tactics and skills to combat the overwhelming force of the Covenant ground forces. This means high casualty rates and immense peril whenever in combat. You could die at any time. In the Battle of Reach alone, 700 million soldiers and civilians alike perished in the Covenant's campaign across the planet. Whether or not the unit people play as evac is up to admin discretion.
Duration: Shouldn't take longer than a weekend or a long weekend, if we're talking gritty ground combat.
