Serious Halo: Fall of Reach

i mean technically you get hit once with a plasma round you're not gonna be ok

chad grunts rise up

The main fighting force along side you in halo was always marines. So why would we play army?

In Reach it was Army, that were stationed on the planet during the invasion. Near the end, there are marines though. RIGHT at the end, with Keyes.

For the duration of Halo Reach, every soldier fighting alongside you is Army. They’re referred to as Army Troopers: and that’s coupled with the fact that they use MA37b assault rifles compared to the MA5 series of the Marines. We could talk about uniform differences, but Halo happens all throughout the course of one year and look how many uniforms the marines go through.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. Reach was the UNSC's military hub. That means Marines, Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors would all have been present during the fighting at every point. In the end you never play a Marine in Halo outside of being an ODST.

As someone who has played serious Halo RP, I wholly recommend this. It's so much better than the Dark RP version. Sure, it can be like Starship Troopers, but i haven't met anyone yet who sincerely didn't enjoy shooting the fuck out of everything, risking all your character development back at base going up in flames because you were unfortunate enough to die during one of the numerous, action-packed/cinematic/emotional missions the admins and the like constantly had going on.

Halo is popular. There is hype for the MCC on PC so it's certainly on the radar for many players. I see this as a great way to get new blood into the server and have people stay for the HL2 City RP later on. And at the end of the day, there's already a shitload of maps, models, weapons, and assets already on Gmod.

Folks, it's just my opinion, but I'd say this Random Roleplay suggestion is a winner.

my only real reservation is how deadly the fighting would be. realistically, soldiers would be dropping like flies, but there's no fun in immediately dying in the first fight, or dying right before the cool climax.

granted, the effects and downsides of this scale to how long this RR plans to last

Surprisingly, the UNSC sort of has an edge against the covenant in squad based combat when push comes to shove.

The feeling of constant death isn’t what I imagine this RR being like(although deaths are certainly a big part of experiences like this.) I think, it’s moreso about the futility: no matter how hard you fight and no matter how many sacrifices you make, it’s still going to end with a glassed Reach.

There's probably a few good maps out there to represent things like New Alexandria. It'd be amazing to try and get a setting like that in play. Reach gave that place great atmosphere and missions with it are some of my favorites. I'll dig around tomorrow for some.

Well like the first mission in reach you can make the map a mountainous countryside. Mass effect props might be able to fill in some of the more " future" type stuff like those windmills. Doesnt have to be giant metropolis areas as reach has temperate/arid/urban and probably tundra enviorments.

Marines get the most screen time of the Halo series by far. I understand why people want to play them: they’re the cool soldiers fighting along side you in nearly every game, making funny quips and kicking ass. From a roleplay standpoint; they’re sort of limiting. Marines have historically been a volunteer only thing, and that limits what people can do. Want to be a petty criminal that was pressed into service to avoid a tiny prison sentence? A draftee? A refugee from another glassed planet fighting for a planet that isn’t yours? You can’t do that stuff if you’re playing as the volunteer only Marine Corps.

rosecoloredryan rosecoloredryan You've activated my Skinner senses.

So I know I've been not in this community for almost a year but, Lordy Lordy would I be happy if a good and proper serious Halo RP came rolling around. When a Halo RP is done right it's just Goddamn fun. Combines all the good aspects of military, sci-fi and apocalyptic settings. The Human-Covenant War is an amazing centerpiece that offers a variety of situations, conflicts and storylines.

With the Covenant you have a multitude of species to fight against, each with different tactics and abilities. Grunts swarming you, Jackals picking you off from a distance. One Elite jumping into the middle of a Marine squad and just raising hell with a plasma rifle and energy sword.

You can fight Insurrectionists, and deal with the less than glorious actions of the UNSC while it tries to keep a hold over the various colonies it has in it's possession.

Hell just basic interaction in this world is fun. With so much always going on, and such a wide diverse background that characters can hail from, it works so well for GmodRPs. Especially serious ones, you just need a good team to keep things spicy.

i do really wanna do a sci fi space themed military campaign like halo etc but unfortunately don't really have the time to commit to at the moment

if we did it i'd like for it to be a short term server rather than an rr like the previous trp, bringing a bunch of recruit characters in basic right up to their first drop etc and i'd like to make sure we have the time to go into it fully which i don't think we have right now, so i'll be tucking this kind of thing away for the future but it's definitely something we'll be revisiting

right now we're all hands on for hl2
