After a long wait we're finally here. Thanks to everyone who donated to the Community, supported the project on Patreon and those that have assisted in the planning. Thanks to TankNut for his contiunued development of Eternity and Hoplite for continuing to lend advice and support for development when needed and thanks to all the players for being patient after my little fib of releasing "soon after Christmas" : )

Half-Life 2 Roleplay - Launch Announcement

ZpJUzOB.png

The Developers and I are excited to finally announce the launch of the newest iteration of TnB's Half-Life 2 Roleplay. Half-Life 2 has always been a pretty basic concept once you got down to it so there's not much to go through or explain here, but I'll give the run down how this new iteration is being approached.

This HL2 is based in City45, located in what used to be Saint Petersburg and the year is 2014. The city stands as a large municipal district, one of many that make up the Combines regime on Earth. Our setting in particular will be focusing on a district within the city that has been newly prepared by the Combine for citizen habitation through the efforts of the Civil Administration and the raising of additional manpower from Civil Protection. As a result many of the offices and resources that may otherwise be available to those in the other districts have yet to be organized or properly put in place and the bulk of Civil Protection charged with the responsibility of maintaining sociostability are fresh out of recruitment with little experience. The Civil Protection work in conjunction with the Civil Administration in order to maintain order inside the district and the city proper, sometimes in agreement and sometimes not.

While there are unwanted elements of society there is no organization, known or unknown that has lent itself to disrupting the Combines efforts in this city. Overwatch also is not a known entity by citizens at the time of launch. They will be introduced at a later date. More information will be gradually parsed as the forums are set up and the appropriate threads are made.

When does it launch?

21st or the 22nd of June, 2019.

bear with us for technical gremlins, however.

F.A.Q
(General questions summed up throughout planning)
Q: When is Launch?
A: Haha.

Q: What is the content pack?
A: --Posting later--

Q: What city are we in?
A: We're in City45, located in Saint Petersburg.

Q: What year is it IC?
A: 2014

Q: Can we play child characters?
A: The youngest age your character can be is 18.

Q: How are donations handled?
A: Donations go through the web panel. excluding certain circumstances. You cannot donate for a custom weapon for the CCA without discussion with Bennet first.

Q: Can I donate for a custom CCA model?
A: No.

Q: When do the people who donated to the patreon get their rewards?
A: The rewards are not going to be available at launch as our attention is focused on finishing critical features and the inevitable fixing of new script woes. We expect things to break.

Q: How do we join the Combine?
A: Recruitment for the CCA will be handled through both the forums and through IC drives on the server.

Q: Can we apply to join the CCA before the server opens?
A: Yes. Will be up on the forums soon.

Q: Can we join Overwatch?
A: Overwatch will make an appearance later, recruitment details will be revealed then.

Q: Is the graduate program still a thing?
A: Yes. The graduate program is an existing tool of the Combine which feeds recruits into both the Civil Protection and the Civil Administration, specifically into the Civil Outreach program.

While I know that we aren't allowing characters from previous iterations this time around, are we still writing in a parallel timeline to last iteration? Given that it's almost a whole continent and a whole decade away, I don't see how it would hurt the narrative to say that they're parallel.

I remember Bennet making mention of how it would be a waste of the admins time to enforce people not playing the same characters, and they weren't going to bother with enforcing it. Check the FAQ to be sure.

No one really cares of you use the same character as last iteration. Go for it boldly and fudge the haters.

Just know they will have fresh and new experiences.

I think that's why it's important to distinguish whether this iteration's world is parallel to the last one or not, because we might have awkward double occurrences of characters and etc. Having a slightly conjoined narrative has a lot of cool potential, but that's pretty much impossible to do if we have clones of every character running around.

In my opinion, there's already so much background world building created from last time that it would seem like a waste to throw it all away.

What is the point of going into a new iteration using the same character from an old one? The point of a new iteration is to have a new character, experience new things, and form new relationships with NEW AND FRESH characters.

Because avatars, duh.

I get your point, but people will play how they want to play. No skin off my back.

You may not play the same character as you have in previous iterations. You may use the same name on a clean slate, though it's preferable you start with a new name.

Q: Can we play past iteration characters?
A: No. This is a brand new iteration and all histories and slates are wiped clean. It's starting fresh. You will be making no sense on the server continuing to play a character from the previous iteration.

Q: Can we use the same names as characters we played on previous/older iterations?
A: Yes. I feel like policing that would be a waste of mine and the admins time.

I'm supposing in other words, Bennet's indicated that there's nothing stopping (nor could it be realistically policed) people from using the same names and pre-hl2 backstories as their old characters but anything that took place in server is null and void. No pre-existing resistance or CCA contacts.

If you do this you need to get over your dead character. I do not want to start a new iteration with recycled characters we all know from other iterations (or other settings).

It's fine to use/improve old ideas from an older char, everyone kinda does that.

Carbon-copies are just kinda meh IMO.

If you played a lot of chars and only have fun playing a certain type then just go for it, aint no one stopping you.

I don't see a problem if someone wants to hit a reset button and retry their character. Maybe they want to attempt to take them on new paths?

As long as they don't just emulate literally everything the character did and claim to know events from the last iteration I don't see an issue.

Ye as far as background worldbuilding goes I'm pretty sure the graduate program is still a thing in the new canon/timeline. Think the main thing that's really getting knocked back to square 1 is the character histories/relationships for a new beginning on that front.

As far as elements of worldbuilding and the background go? Should use as much of the cool shit we came up with in the past imo, whether it be to put a new twist on it in the new timeline or simply try to set up scenarios we didn't get a chance to do last time around, now with new characters who don't have 3 uprisings under their belt.
