i wanna get a true 1920x1080 monitor (current one is a tad smaller than that)

does it really matter if i buy one brand over another

and either way which should i get

look at specs not brand, but dont buy from a company known to be shit with return policies

thats about it

benq and asus are good to go with

brand does matter

pay attention to monitor finish. i prefer matte over gloss due to fingerprint and glare concerns

I got me a BenQ 1920x1080 whatever the hell dual monitor set myself. Refresh rate is okay
get something with a good refresh rate

what would be considered a "good" refresh rate and what other specs should i look out for

refresh rate is only important if you care about high framerates(above 60)
it'll cost you extra to get more than the default 60hz

i'd look at response time and make sure its below 5-6ms and possibly an IPS panel if you want prettier colours(also costs extra)

of course this probably only matters if you care for anything 60 frames or above (120 refresh rate, 144 refresh rate) but yeah its good if you want to do csgo shit because it does really make a difference
if its 60hz you're pretty good my man. i use an asus which has worked pretty well, no problems or anything. just look at reviews and all that good stuff before ordering

The higher the better. Shitty monitors have a rate of 60Hz and the you're gonna want like??? more. you're going to want more. you're welcome
i like fps

i need the extra hz to shotcop effectively

the extra hz will only matter if you have a graphics card which is strong enough to support it. though if you have a good card and were using sub-1080 display i'd be really curious why you made that decision

im using three dell 24 something monitors. got them cuz they're the same model i have at work and have been happy with it there, and was looking forward to using the display port daisy chaining to minimize wire mess but unfortunately it seems that nvidia surround isnt supported with daisy chained monitors.

i have an r9 390 and using a sub-1080 60hz display, 3 of them.

kill me now

i bought two 1080 AOC monitors for like 80 bucks each and they are honestly not all that different from my roomate's benQ

you should just spend all your money on a 4k monitor :)))

I wouldn't buy a 4K monitor unless your card supports it tbh

4k monitors are pricey and dumb even with 4k-compatible cards; playing games at 30fps isnt enjoyable

BenQ I hear have a good reputation, and surprisingly Dell make some good monitors as well. Like Gang said earlier it doesn't really matter about refresh rate so long as it's 60Hz, unless you want more for a higher price.

i have two dell monitors and they work just fine
fine framerates and never really get eye strain

just bought an asus with 144hz and 1ms today

cost me a whopping 300 bucks

I regret the monitor I bought, not because it's a bad one but because there was a similar model from the same company that had 144hz refresh and 1ms response time while still being an IPS panel and having a native reso of 2560x1440 with slim bezel. The part that burnt the most was that the price tag was about the same of what I spent for my 60hz IPS w/ 4ms response at 1440p.

Either way, my monitor is an ASUS and it's probably one of the best monitors I've had the chance to use. Acer despite being a more budget type brand is good if you plan on transporting your desktop system anywhere simply because just about every Acer monitor I've had (even LCD panels) have stupidly good durability for some reason.
