does monitor brand really matter

imo its a bit too early to go for high refresh rates and anything above 1080 unless you dont mind paying the hefty early adopter tax

depends whhat you want it for. a lot of stuff wont really benefit from 144hz (though it will look nice).
similarly theres no point going for 4k if you cant drive it. 1440p nowadays is a good middle ground, though 1080p will always be a solid choice.
then theres tn vs ips panels, and refresh rates.

ultimately you get what you pay for. brand does matter (dead pixel policies etc etc)

shit man if it annoys you do what you want. if you dont wanna bother with doing a rma and rarely notice it then you dont have to.

Asus and acer are good brands for monitors. My home currently has 3 acer monitors and they're great. We have an asus monitor in one other room and for some reason it's noticeably less prestine than the acer's. I think it might just be that the Asus monitor is a bit old, but whatever, it holds out then doesn't it?

a single dead pixel is unforgivable in this day and age imo

make sure you don't get one with flimsy stand that wobbles around when you type, annoying as fuck

source: i have one

whatever you do, I'd buy it in person at a store so that if you end up with any dead pixels you don't get stuck waiting for it to ship back and forth. something to consider, though I could also see taking the chance and buying off the internet to save a lot

edit: i didn't read the thread first, but I still feel as though this is good advice to consider
