What is the best 'bang for buck' processor about right now, my budget is fairly limited as well.

Thanks in advance.

i5 2500k
i7 2600k

Everything else is either really expensive or terrible.

Fuck AMD

2500k is 2,500,000 guys.

You mean 2.50k

2(dot)50k

Budget :( ?
That processor would cost me £150 or so, that is over half my monthly expenditure.

The cheapest Quad Core I could find is the i5 2400 for around 190$

He asked for "Bang for your buck" processors and you're all suggesting intels?
This is why you don't go to TnB for tech support.

Cheap, overclocks well, and many are reporting you can unlock it to a hexacore. If you have the mobo for it of course. AMDs aren't necessarily the best, but they are priced much better.

Speaking of motherboards, what processor do you currently have? There's a very good chance you'll have to change motherboards as well.

Best bang for your buck is an i5, by far. AMD's are cheaper, but they perform significantly worse. When it comes to Price:Performance, the i5-2500k is definitely the clear winner. Main problem is really what his mobo supports, though.

buying an AMD in 2012

It's pretty obvious he can't afford an i5, and considering he's likely just using it for gaming, this is really all he needs.

Arzalis, you're probably right that the i5 is probably a better buy, but it's still ~$200. I highly doubt he requires the power it offers.
AMDs are good processors for someone on a budget. And games hardly require anything more, I assume he's only doing games ATM since he's survived this long with a lower end processor and hasn't mentioned anything regarding wanting to do processor intensive work.
After all is said and done, it's as good a budget processor as you're going to find.

Got a P5W DH Deluxe mother board along with an E660 processor I overclocked from 2.40Ghz to 3.02Ghz only just yesterday.

I have this, and it performs perfectly. The i5 would be ideal if you had the money, but if not, don't be forced into getting one.

I have the 1090T Processor and it performs like a dream, I really do like it. Along with an Asus Sabertooth 990fx

You're basically gonna have to buy a new motherboard along with a new processor if you want anything relatively new (And you know, still being sold)

That will probably also mean getting new DDR3 RAM as well

Hate to tell you, but you'll probably end up replacing at least 3 components by the end of the day

we'll see how bulldozers do

Sub-par to current gen i5s (which is it's major competitor) given everything we've seen so far. It actually even falls behind 1st gen in some cases. Sandy Bridge killer it is not.

You gotta admit though, APUs are a pretty cool tech. I can't say much for their performance but combining the CPU and GPU into one? What's stopped us from doing this in the past? Would be wonderful for laptops.

eff emm ell then.
Will have to stay with this :(
