The year is 1997 and following a Japanese victory in WW2 the government has begun to violently crackdown on dissent and the regimes grip on the population through fear.

The most horrific show of force by the government was the passage of the Millennium Education Reform Act or the BR Act which established the Battle Royale, a yearly event in which fifty High School classes are chosen and sent to various small islands used as arenas where the students are meant to fight to the death until a sole survivor remains.

This year your class has had the honor to be one of the fifty selected. You and forty one of your fellow students will be shipped off to beautiful Okishima Island to participate in this grand event for the glory and honor of your household.

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the rules of the tournament with this educational video commissioned by the school board.

Battle Royale is a '99 Japanese film about teenagers forced to kill each other. It's a good movie, watch it.

This RR would take place over a single weekend. Starting on that Friday Afternoon and if there are still survivors by the end of the day on Sunday their collars will explode ending the RR.

this idea came about in a late night convo with snug one night and i decided to see if i could make it into a thing

Uh...

Y'know considering past context this may sound hypocritical, but I'm wary about having us all play teenagers murdering each-other for sport.

Even if we weren't teenages, just, self-genoicde like this in general. No bueno.

i loved the movie and i think its a cool idea

i wanna see other people's opinions about it tho

its going to need a decent amount of ppl for it and we'll probably have some off-screen characters to die at first to get the full ~immersion~ of it

the point of this isnt to have people doing /me guns down former friends with ak47 while he say "Ha ha ha loser.". im more expecting to see people in small little cliques formulating ideas on how to possibly escape such hopeless conditions, ending up in tragic events similar to those in the film where u see two lovers commit suicide so they dont have to kill each other. personal stories contained within small groups of ic friends that focus on each individuals morality and ability to react to very horrifying circumstances.

This is a fictional setting bro. It's alternate history Japan

Eh, fair point. It's got a lot of stuff that can go about it.

Really, I thought Japan did this every year on live TV /s

No, no. I'm more worried about it devolve into maso-sadist gore-porn. But if things to as Patriot's aiming for, it can be a good RP experience.

i've not watched the movie so i don't know what happens or none of that jazz

and i'll be the first to admit that this entire idea stemmed from a dumb conversation we had whilst waitin for our team mates to die in pubg, but there's a lot of ways this could be good and bad at the same time

for example, patriot lightly skirted the subject but a setting like this is *bound* to have people playing to win, rather than writing together. people will want to say "i won battle royale", and that comes as part of the parcel that is an rr based on a battle royale. i'm not sure how this could be handled considering characters themselves would also more then likely play to win, considering they'd die if they lose, but it's a hard and thin ass road to travel along.

no one that's cleared to participate by the RR moderation team would be here just for gorey sadism either, because if we go off the setting that's originally been proposed, then these people are classmates. friends, they've known eachother for a long ass time. sure, there'll be bullies and geeks and people from varying 'social groups' that cause character disparities, but i doubt anyone would want or expect to do grim gory rp. the most violence you'd get probably is someone being killed my some sharp weapon.

also, clearly bought up the point that we'd be roleplaying as teenagers killing teenagers -- but we don't have to be, do we? we can just switch the formula a little bit to make it adults killing adults, if it becomes that much of an issue - we've done it in settings before. this is a three day long event that'd be there just for people to enjoy themselves in a new, fresh setting, and experience something new, so why can't we just say an office block is taken instead? or a class of university students (i think that's adult age i am retarded)

i also know that the fact that it's teenagers is what causes such a harshness to the thing, but if it becomes an issue, then that's a possible solution to it.

i think this setting, if done right, could be very fun, engaging, emotional and all those nice words that come hand in hand with interesting roleplay, but i can see there'd be a lot of issues that come with the setting.

idk, a lot of battle royale is about how they're still teenagers. one day they're having fun on the bus talking about their crush and then the next, they're thrown onto a random island and told to kill each other by their former teacher. they are not as mature and make irrational decisions and friendships are torn apart and innocence is lost.

i understand that tnb has a shifty past about playing characters that are minors and for good reason but idk if it'll work right if they are all adults

I'd recommend making the duraton just 1 day, people tend to lose steam when it comes to really open ended scenarios like this even in a few hours let alone a few days.. Plus something kinda jarring about multiple day long RRs is that people of course cant put aside an entire weekend for them usually, nor want to, so characters just disappear and pop back into existence weirdly. Personally speaking I think this'd be better off as a compact 1 day thing

they'd be teenagers either way with tnb's history
ie they wouldn't act like adults act they'd act like the 17 year old behind the screen acts

Just open up a map with flat grass and make it free for all, whoever is the last alive.... wins ez

if you do it any other way it would be a catastrophe quite honestly

finally i can roleplay to win like i've always wanted to

i love this perspective of "haha tnb sucks we can't roleplay anything LAWL" /s

i agree with what nerdbird says, i think there's a whole more in depth aspect roleplaying as innocent, sheltered teenagers who get thrown into a completely foreign world of violence. i hardly see a way that the "evil immature" demographic of tnb can really ruin it unless you have an instance of vampire roleplay where everyones 14 year old busty females. i think the people here are competent enough to handle roleplaying it. and those who aren't get denied by the RR administrators? ezpz?

When you put it that way yeah the evil immature demographic is perfect for the evil immature setting. Didn't even realize that...

i think the ross and steve mentality is too common here its funny in small doses but this shit is just annoying now...
