Serious Battle Royale RR

In a setting where characters are steadily and methodically killed off, like we saw in the Alien RR, it's required to be a one-night deal. If you make it two or three days people will just leave, re-appear, and it'll be a nightmare to manage who is dead and who is not. In Alien people joined for the night, died horribly after having their fun, and left.

From a simple feasibility standpoint that's your biggest hurdle, and your second biggest is making it a clusterfuck with too many people. The more you add the slower it gets, and everyone is going to want a well-written death.

I don't know what this business is about not being able to handle x and y in a setting because of the TnB demographic. It's a pretty dumb set of standards because they're always so poorly defined and justified. There's a few things people here can't be trusted with, they're very obvious, but this is a fictional event, not a real one, so it's subject to the same standards and scrutiny we give HL2RP (a setting about a full on genocide not just a little murder), and there's not much reason we should hold this to some higher standard, the setting doesn't even demand you particularly push exploring the themes beyond the actual Battle Royale.

This isn't touchy like trying to RP a legitimate real-world genocide like was proposed in the Warsaw thread, it's no more touchy than the fictional genocide of the human species we all play daily on the HL2 server, a convenient fact most people who argue against it tend to forget, and honestly I'm just pressing this because it annoys me a little personally more than anything.

What about the children we're being proposed to RP. That's a restriction we just bend. They're 16, 18, 20,21, whatever is deemed to be adulthood. Probably 21 because I think that's how it is in the US and the minimum age on the main servers. Just make them university students, not high schoolers. That part isn't even a problem worth debating.

That said I don't have much faith in this actually happening, at least not for a long long time. After PUBG isn't so exciting anymore and has died down for sure. We have so many other, more interesting, ideas to work through instead.

me and fez will be the thot patrol in this rr

My only fear is people will want drawn out desths or will get very cheaply killed, or someone will take it too far

Id be very much up for this one......however I think the setting and some other details would need to be tweaked to fit our own needs.........

For a start not Japan. Stick to what you know - and most of our playerbase being english or american means we can relate to that setting much easier. An all-japanese character base would result in lots of horrendous stereotypes and also a lot of confusion over names.
Swap the setting to America as it also allows for a much more diverse set of backgrounds.

Secondly I would say do not have a pre-chosen "class" of characters. This would mean that everyone would be supposed to have a deep background and relationships with each other. Which you cant just make up on the spot.
Thus I think strangers would be a good start.

going into a battle royale situation, you are going to have to expect some cheap kills. people are going to be blown up or have an arrow shot through them. it is just how the game goes. if someone throws a fit about it just kick them out and have them deal with their babyfit

worrying that ____ or ____ will happen because of things that have happened in the past is a very pessimistic view on things and that has to be my biggest pet peeve with tnb

the thing about this setting though is that people *will* get killed "cheaply". it's aprt of the package - not everyone will be in some intense firefight before the jaws of death snap them up, no - if you're not watching your surroundings you could literally just be popped in the back of the head when you're least expecting it. it's not fun, so as nerdbird suggested - offscreen characters can periodically be killed throughout the event

also, if we're not doing japan and we're doing america, we could still stick with the main shock factor of the film and keep it to high schoolers. as dave said, it'd be hard to make it so taht everyone knows everyone ic from an ooc point of view, so why not add a hunger games-esque thing to it, where instead of a single, full class of students being selected, it's 2 - 4 students from various highschools around america. then, you and whoever has the character that attends the same school can work together so that your characters know eachother. it'll still give people the oppurtunity to explore that emotional side of the event, whilst still making it feasable and easy for people to do.

or a class of university students

I've decided that the best way to circumvent the somewhat uncomfortable age group and still stick close to the source material would be to put the setting in a state-run Japanese university.

The characters have just arrived at their orientation in the prestigious Okishima University. The students are some of the best minds the world has to offer, coming from all corners of the globe to study.

Quicker version: First day uni students.
-Gives us an adult age range.
-Let's us have some students from abroad.
-Most will be strangers

Also on the subject of shitters trying to "win" the ronjon. The setting does give us some tools to kill people like this off, make them play nice or guide groups into one another.

Such as
Danger Zones: Certain grids of the map that are temporarily marked off limits will result in a char's explosive collar going off if inside for too long.

Creatures: Included in the resources is an animal model pack for admins/mods to use to guide people to certain RP and increase tension.

To all the people asking how this would work here's a general timel

1.Players pile in server and interact with one another casually for a bit.

2. The BR is announced and introduced ICly to the chars.

3. Final prep of the chars and map.

4.Players are cut loose to explore the map and Battle Royale. Things will be slow at first with Lethal weaponry trickling in at a snails pace.(If we don't have the full 42 then we can have some players rejoin in as other students)

5.Players who've focused more on exploration than murder will gain deeper understanding of the plot.(For those who have seen the film this will be similar to the students who began looking into how the collars worked.)

6. Raise the stakes by increasing the number of lethals available to populace. More wild creatures, more traps, more collar explosions, more death in general.

7a. One person kills the rest and wins.
7b. Nobody wins and all collars explode.
7c. [REDACTED]
7d. [REDACTED]

8. Everyone bows out and there is maybe an AAR posted for those who want the full story.

9. Cleanup crew comes in to remove all the bodies.

what about the hungarian games rrp but nobody breaks out
and no katniss callaghan everdeen

Hunger Games is PG-13 which means we can't use too many cuss words and we won't be allowed to show too much violence. MPAA said so.

speaking of dead horses Lazlo's making a guest appearance at this rr

battle royale seems like it's one big fantasy of a perverted Japanese businessman with a very dark, specific fetish, and it actually kind of is
