I can sign into steam on my iPad, I can sign into steam on my cellphone, I can't sign into steam on my laptop. Downloaded Watch Dogs, unpacked it, updated my driver (possibly in the wrong way, I'm not sure how that stuff works admittedly) and now whenever I try to log into steam I get specifically a popup that says Steam is updating for a brief moment, then the regular login screen. I log in, it says "Updating User Configuration..." and then "Connecting Steam Account: [accountname]." After that, nothing visibly happens and if I click the steam icon again it repeats the same process. Notably in the processes tab of Windows Task Manager, for a few seconds after "Connecting Steam Account" disappears there's a process labeled "steamerrorreporter.exe" running. No matter how many times I go through this process my steam account does not sign in and I cannot access any of my games.

e; And yes, I have tried restarting my laptop.

e2; Nevermind, I did a driver update again and I'm pretty sure I did it right this time. Regardless, steam is working.

Glad I could help.

Thank you Hawg, never would've been able to do this without you. While you're at it can you tell me how to start a game in steam in the lowest possible settings, windowed, at the lowest resolution? Because Watch Dogs thinks I have a supercomputer or something and starts it in high settings I can't run I'm pretty sure.

what the fuck do i change here

Change the quoted values in Resolution Y and Resolution X here to something fitting the aspect ratio of your monitor that's low (it's probably 16:10 if its a laptop) and maybe give replacing the words VeryHigh with Normal.

That's just what I would do though, and I'm a mook.

As I attempted to tell you over Steam while you were offline.

1:46 AM - JC Heavy - Best B-17 gunner 1945: Apparently, AMD isn't optimized for Watch Dogs
1:46 AM - JC Heavy - Best B-17 gunner 1945: NVIDIA already released an update driver for the game, but from what I'm reading, AMD didn't get to look at some of the code so AMD may or may not get optimized drivers for the game
1:50 AM - JC Heavy - Best B-17 gunner 1945: I asked Robert Hallock about this specifically, and he explains that they had “very limited time with the title and [we've] been able to implement some respectable performance improvements thanks to the skill of our driver engineers. Careful performance analysis with a variety of internal tools have allowed us to profile this title, despite deliberate obfuscation attempts, to improve the experience for users.”

AMD will release a new driver to the public this week which reflects those improvements. (It’s the same driver I conducted my testing with.) Unfortunately my conversation with Hallock didn’t end with a silver lining: “I am uncertain if we will be able to achieve additional gains due to the unfortunate practices of the Gameworks program,” he remarked.
