Thanks. Though now I seem to have been having other problems. Gmod kept crashing when I tried to connect to any server. I found a console command that's supposed to fix that, which did indeed let me proceed far enough to finish the downloads. But now it's been stuck at Retrieving Server Info. >.< I just can't win with this thing.

That can happen if the map changes/server crashes while you are trying to connect. Does it happen repeatedly or just the once?

Seemed to happen the one time. I've managed to get in and play. Though I'm missing an annoying amount of textures and models due to my lack of Episode 2. That will get fixed in due time.

download a program called gcfscape, then log into the account of a friend who has ep2, download ep2 from his account, take the gcf files, open them with gcfscape, and export all the shit from the gcf into your garrys mod folder.

or just buy the fuckin game for like 8 dollars.
