System, NT Kernel

So yeah, been getting average CPU spikes, getting really annoying. So I went into resources and checked what was hogging it all up. Turns out its this thing called System, (owned by or made by) NT Kernel.

Anyone had this problem before?

NT kernel refers to Windows NT (which almost all windows OS are just upgrades of.) It's supposed to be running and it will be high (if not highest) in usage because it's essentially the entire operating system. Are you positive the spikes are coming from there? Also, another question if this is the case, are you using any USB peripherals?

I've got no USB's (If thats what you mean) in at the time, I'm running of Windows 7. I'm sure its that, after some internet searches I've found out people have had problems with it.

Could try disabling the Windows Search Index. I know that will sometimes case CPU usage to spike.
Start -> Run -> Services.msc

Find Windows Search, right click it and go to properties. Change the start type to disabled. Hit apply and reboot.

If it's not that one in particular, it's likely one of the windows services that's causing the spike. The trick is finding out which one.
