Stuck on character select screen

When I join one of the hl2rp servers, I try to select one of my characters, but trying to select a character does absolutely nothing. Is there a workaround for this?

is it the coast or is it the city? if its the coast you're out of luck you've got to start on the city
there are transition points on the city
this sort of acts as an ooc filter for more nooby people
if you can prove yourself a good RPer it'll be easy to find how to get to the outlands Meeps
