I've been trying to start up steam for hours now and it insists on updating for the Client Beta. However, it hasn't gotten past something along the lines of 68 out of 168,000 KB, and when it gets too far, I get:

Steam needs to be online to update. Please configure your network connection and try again.

Additionally, several pages of Steam's site itself won't load, particularly the store and the community, when I try to access them via Chrome.

is this happening to anyone else? I don't understand why in God's name Steam is suddenly slower than molasses, and until the steam client updates all 168,000 KB, I won't be able to get on.

Maybe a reinstallation?

I can't figure out why it's not loading the website either, and that's just in Chrome. Is there a way to get out of the beta without it loading?

According to Steam forums it's not just me having this issue but it doesn't seem like anyone there has a solution.

I'm not gonna cash out on an Alienware, I'm too stingy for that.

In all seriousness though it seems like more people are having this. Anyone find a solution? I'm having this problem again.

Edit: seems to be happening in the Tri-State area in particular (Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati), so might be a problem with the ISP.

i had that but i bought an alienware and now its fixed

Is anyone else here having a problem with Steam? It's still happening.

its like you dont believe me or something

Alright, I'm not sure if this'll fix your problem. But try right clicking your steam shortcut, and click properties. Open file location, and there should be the list of shit there. Now find clientregistry.blob, and delete that. Now try launching steam again.
