Stalker assistance, please!

So, a while back I got a gift from a good friend, a STALKER pack (SoC and CoP), and boy was I excited. I installed the game, and began to play it. The problem? Shadow of Chernobyl takes an EXTREMELY long time to load, (area portals, loading a save, etc). And with CoP, the game simply crashes after the main intro.

Specs are: PC, NVidea Geforce GTS 250

Pentium Dual-Core CPU, 2.60 GHZ

click on properties under stalker in steam, type in "-prefetching" without the quotations in your launch options

To run CoP you need to turn off steam in-game...dunno why but its the only way to fix(worked for me)

Alright, load times are now good, problem is that as soon as I spawn (when your character appears in the world) the game freezes. No error message, nuttin.
