Beginning from the last two weeks, it's been taking my laptop at least 10 minutes to load into a server. But before that, It'd only take me less than a minute or so. I lag whenever I load things, like props, or load advanced dupe ghosts. Whenever I lag on loading something, the game just freezes and the sound freezes and keeps repeating, until my computer finishes loading whatever it is. But whenever I'm running around or something, the graphics is fine ranging from 30-50 fps.

I'm sure it's not a problem with the laptop,

i7 3.2 ghz
8 GB RAM
1 TB HDD
64 bit

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

More comprehensive specs would be helpful.

At any rate, download advanced system care 5 from Cnet or something and start cleaning/defragging.

Does that advanced system care actually work?

Works really well for me.

I had bad experiences with it. Be very careful.

Either way if you're getting good performance after the load I doubt the computer specifications are to blame. Have you tried reinstalling Garry's Mod? Deleting the lua cache? Any excessive addons/content?

This might seem stupidly simple, but just blow in your laptop's fan outlet/inlets. I was having overheating and lagging troubles and that actually fixed it for me.

A better option if your laptop is designed to allow it (some arent) is to take it apart and clean out the fan.

Well. I did spill a whole mug of coffee on the keyboard 2 months back. The keyboard on it no longer works, but I'm pretty sure it's not that. I'll try clearing cache.

Is it the 'retrieving server info' part of connecting to a server which you get stuck on?

Pretty much, and at the end of sending client info.

I'm 99% sure that your problem is due to either your Motherboard or your HDD, most likely your HDD being over-clogged as a motherboard does not really degrade.. it just surely breaks, I think so anyway?
Invest in a SSD or just clean your HDD up, a SSD will load everything in a fraction of the time now.
