S1 causes gmod to crash

Everytime I join S1, it downloads a bunch of stuff like usual. Then when it gets to "materials/gui/ad2logo.tga", the game freezes and it crashes to desktop with the following error:

This doesn't happen on S2 or any other server.

Same here. I get to 56% done in the downloading screen and then it crashes Gmod when I try to get into S1.

Server restarts seem to fix it, at least temporarily.
