Pedestrians and drivers alike make their daily commute. Voices talk, laugh and bicker. Distant sirens wail, hailing the activity of the emergency services earning their pay. Radio stations cycle between their established tracks, talk-shows and new reports while TV offers the same monotony as before. Though the hustle and bustle of the city seems to be like any other, there's something off - something just out of sight, at the periphery of your vision.
This is an idea I've been sitting on for months but have been too lazy/busy to sit down and make a thread.I for one particularly enjoyed the early stages of ZRParoxysm, ZRP 2 and to a lesser extent HL2:BTS where we could play off the urban/casual setting of the city and I know many others here did, too. Whether that was dropping by Cappello's nightclub, grabbing something to eat and drinking with a few friends at the diner, watching the convenience store get robbed by a twitchy junkie or hearing news reports after the police ran a shakedown of the apartments to disastrous effect - it worked really well. I think it speaks volumes in some ways that the servers were a their highest population (outside of events) before and during the transitional period. Outside the administration and select players, the 'planned' focus of the setting would be unknown. I would want players to figure it out in server - whether it was an alien invasion, t r a n s m a f i a, clones of Dale Payne, hidden cyborgs sent back in time from the future to sow chaos and discord for their artificial creator - perhaps none of these at all, just a city about to be thrown under the spotlight.
TL;DR - What is this?
An RP iteration set in a recent-modern urban setting in the United States - a similar one to those we have visited in the past, but with the premise of going into the unknown. Unlike before, the IC setting/theme will be kept under wraps save for a select few, leaving the players to experience the mystery as it unfolds.
A politician just got arrested, maybe?
Or a local beat cop disappeared?
Someone reported a power surge and flickering lights at a local substation? Maybe all three - maybe none. It will dynamically unfold as we continue. If you or your characters want to find out, they'll have to figure it out.
As far as content is concerned we have almost everything we need from the ZRP iteration of CC that TankNut, Hoplite and Bennet pieced together.
