Yo.

I got an intel i5 3570k CPU and 8 gig of RAM, so I'd assume my computers processing capacity should be pretty fine for what it's worth. But I noticed the tendency (it isn't always) for the PC to just be slow. Games etc. open instantly. But for example launching Chrome/Firefox can take like up to 10 seconds. Sometimes the browser just freezes up. Sometimes going to a webpage causes chrome to freeze up. I don't think it's chrome itself, as I expect it to depend on my computers own ability to process the tasks.

Before switching to Windows 8, I had like a maximum number of hard faults but when I switched over it became fine. This is the resource monitor now with really nothing running apart from my music player and some other background shit + obviously google chrome.

Anyone know what might be up?

Probably something with your hard drive unless it's an SSD. If it's not an SSD try defragging.

yeah for a computer running slow its not always associated with memory, do you keep a lot of tabs up on chrome and use the settings 'continue where i left off' when closing it? if so, thats probably why it takes time to load, since it runs a seperate process for each tab.

you can always check your hard drive activity by the small light on your case too, if its taking a long time to load bets are it'll be lit up most of the time.

(otherwise defragging is probs your best solution, or possibly a disk check on startup)

For Chrome specifically, clear your cache to start with. If it's still slow, google how to turn off hardware acceleration. Sounds counter-intuitive, but it genuinely can help with certain setups.

What's your drive set up like?
