Looking into getting a new computer

Isnt that the whole point of Alienware, Helios?

grats to you guys convincing Tami to go down the build route. I got shot down after I didn't find any (good) prebuilts in his budget range and instead sent him a vid that showed some good parts and how to put them together. :(

Vid being;

That rig's like 500 pounds

That's like 800 bucks

does your $430 budget include monitor(s)? if so going to be very tight.

but I can use my TV until I get a 1080p monitor. I have a good mouse and there's an old keyboard in my closet.

There ye go

I'd go for a super-beefy APU with really fast RAM, and then throw a proper GPU (R9 270X or R9 280) in later on.

And then,

Yeah. If you're on a budget, ditch the graphics card and grab a Kaveri for now.

They will definitely handle 720p, but also 1080p depending on the game/settings. Haven't played SoM, but I imagine this could run it with the settings dialed back.

Edited:

There's a bundle deal for the 7850K with just about everything you need, for 376$:

The APU he's talking about can run Battlefield 4 on Ultra (minus anti-aliasing and ambient occlusion (i hate anti-aliasing because it adds mouse delay anyways)) at 1080p, 30fps. So I'm going to assume it can handle just about everything at 720p, 30-60fps? If all's right, it performs better than expected and buys cheaper than expected. Which is great.

The pages you posted have ... in their URL and cannot be visited. You will have to find the original URL and repaste.

Antialiasing is less necessary the higher resolution you have, and software antialiasing is superior in 99% of cases.

i'd definately recommend avoiding micro-ATX boards and mini towers, they're a pain in the fucking ass to upgrade in the future.
most of the time they can't accept high-end GPUs because of physical dimensions (my old mini-tower couldnt fit my 660ti GPU by a few inches because of how they organised the parts)

The case is well built and the gear looks at the very least acceptable and is probably future proof for a couple years, but if it can't accept a good graphics card then it's not worth it. Anyone who tells you it's not the graphics card/motherboard combo that carries the computer is dead wrong.

That video makes me sad because I'm too much of a pussy to even attempt to read into/test overclocking.

Although I agree with Helios (E: And Shen) mostly because having an upgrade-friendly rig is going to save you alot of frustration in the future, with how your budget is atm I think your best bet would probably be that combo on newegg.

Although, take what I say with abit of salt because I have this ~6 or 7 hundred buck prebuilt and the only thing I've had the balls to upgrade in it is the graphics card. Considering you normally play at 720p, I think for now you'd be fine with that combo. Considering it can play BF4 at medium at 720 with 70+ FPS. That way, you'd have more time to save up for a better rig.

Again, take Helios or Keefe's (Or Shen's) suggestions more seriously than mine. Please. I don't want to be the reason you blew 300/400 bucks because of a bad suggestion

I can buy the combo deal and still be $58.51 under budget, so I could buy a full case that's compatible with everything else still, if case size is important and a mini-tower can't fit most graphics cards.

remember to take into account VAT or whatever shipping costs you amerifaggots have
it usually adds more doshe

Shipping costs are generally pretty good on newegg. Sometimes they have free/half off/etc. shipping deals as well. That tiger site and tomshardware do a lot of deals as well.

It's less the size of the case and more the motherboard inside of it. That is the big thing every other component plugs into. Sometimes micro boards are advertised as "PCI-E" which is what every graphics card plugs into nowadays - and yet like Helios said their physical size is compatible with the graphics card. Unlucky.

Unfortunately, a good motherboard is generally pretty expensive, as is a good graphics card. And both of those things require a good power supply. This is why if you could get a new PC built by a shop in town (labor costs are generally not that bad), that will be your best bet.

- You can start off with a good motherboard and power supply and try to get the best bang for your buck
- Then go for a processor and graphics card. Try to get an AMD processor and an ATI/AMD card, or an Intel processor and an nVidia/EVGA card. Don't mix Intel with ATI/AMD or AMD with nVidia/EVGA
- A hard drive with a good read/write speed is important, too, otherwise your graphics card will be going too fast for your hard drive
- Most games nowadays require a lot of memory too, but 12GB-16GB is enough and has been for 3 years. 8GB was only 'too little' starting a year ago

That said, like we say in compy service, the mobo has to go. You want one that is not micro for reasons that it might not fit a good graphics card.

Okay so that bundle deal isn't available, just as I've got the cash pulled together for it. I've actually got a general question. Am I able to build a Desktop PC (just the PC, not the monitor/keyboard/mouse) that's as powerful as a playstation 4 but either as cheap as or relatively close to the price of a PS4? If not I'm just going to buy a PS4 and use my laptop for computer related things instead, tbh. My budget's not all that great and I have other things I want to be putting money towards, so I'm not putting any more than what I've got right now towards this. I've got $435 in cash right now

So much misinformation in this thread.

Something like this is the best I can do for something that should run any modern game easily. It's a bit over budget, but you can downgrade to less RAM to fix that. You'll still need a case, but you could get whatever for that.
