I don't have phone lines where I live, so DSL/ADSL are out of the question.

Satellite will make me kill myself. I had to deal with Hughes net for 3 months when I lived in California and I'm never going down that trail of tears ever again.

So what can I get? I have no clue what's available around here and research yields nothing, I'm just wondering if maybe I need to look for something that's not exactly widely known/common knowledge.

Google search seems to point to CableOne as your best bet, if that's available.

I mean you could always move somewhere else instead of Idaho if you want better internet :^)

like seriously though what the hell is there even in Idaho for someone who isn't a old replublic patato farmer?

150kb/s DSL here and I live 45 minutes from Washington D.C.

The struggle is real

i feel better knowing i have 800 kb/s now

i had 80k/bs from when dsl started to like 08

now i pay 25 bucks for 45mbps at uverse

also why don't you google nerd

Verizon is good if you have FiOS but dreadful if you don't.

cableone fucking SUCKS
its all thats avaliable in mississippi
and its like 50 bucks a month for like 1mb/s on a good day

Man, so a few things to keep an eye out for while you hunt for an ISP. If it mentions WiMax or any other garbage, find a friend who has Verizon or Sprint and see how good their data service is on their phone. Run a speed test from said phone see what ping and speeds are like. If it's shit? Don't spend the chunk of change. In some places little ISPs will sell a WiMax and you may get some decent speeds off that.

Tons of little ISPs out there will also offer fixed wireless service, this involves them affixing a fixed microwave or other specture ant on the top of your house and pointing it at their towers. This is usually better than Satellite or WiMax. I've seen people get 200mb/s off Fixed Wireless services.

Do you have a job that requires only a GED certificate and pays $15 an hour?

Granted I'm rarely on the schedule for the winter. But I make around 10-15K during the summer and 5K during the winter and pay around 400 in living expenses a month.

Plus in the winter I can go to the local community college to get my basic general education out of the way, which only cost around 1-3K. So in the end I'm getting out with around 6-7K a year without including taxes.

But that's beside the point. I had a choice between living in the Spokane area of Washington, which is literally like a miniature LA, only with less celebrities and more gangs, or Cour D'alene, which isn't a miniature LA. It's much cheaper living for what it's worth, and I still get TV.

If you have no physical cable options T-Mobile's HSPA+ is pretty decent but it will cost at most 150/mo if you want full high-speed 24/7. If you provided a zipcode or something people may be able to provide more info. If you are interested in the LTE/hspa+ options what you can do is purchase a modem where you insert your sim. The ping is fairly decent for instance dota2 I would rate as playable and certainly better then satellite which has if I remember pings of 2k+ms.

I retract my prior statement. Seems pretty good.
