hl2.exe not completely closing

hi

so, recently build myself a new computer, it's wonderful and runs like a dream. but it seems when ever i run gmod and exit out, hl2.exe keeps running in the background and i need to close it via taskmanager. while not the end of the world, it'd be nice to have this issue. running windows 10 64 bit if that helps.

any help would be greatly apperciated and rewarded with x1 friendly tag

i used to have a playstation 2. and when ever something didnt work, i used to give it a nice smack, and bash it until it worked. try that?

I have the same issue with Windows 8.1, but it only actually comes up when I close it from the main menu. Typing quit in console doesn't trigger it for me.

nope. Came back this morning to find it saying i was still playing gmod apparently

In my experience, Garry's Mod just has this problem.

It happened on Windows 7 on my old PC and happened on Windows 8 on my old laptop.

I don't know if it happens on this PC... It's just habit of mine to alt+f4 out of GMOD if I don't just open up task manager and close it anyways.

This has been an issue for a long while I'm pretty sure. Only way around it is ending it in task manager.

Like Fervens said. Ctrl + Shift + Escape is a direct shortcut to the Task Manager. Anyway, Task Manager > Processes > hl2.exe > End Task. I have had this problem for as long as I can remember, and Windows 8+ does it as well.

I had the issue before when I switched to Windows 10, and when I switched back to Windows 7 it was magically resolved. Just open the task manager and end the process.

if you get tired of doing it every time, i'm sure it's possible to make a batch file to do it for you with a simple double click

@echo off
taskkill /IM hl2.exe /F

Put that into a notepad file
File->Save as kill.bat
Run after quitting gmod
