I seem to have this problem every time TRP is on Atomic, I usually have some lagspikes here and then because of my crappy computer, but on atomic, they go one after the other, nonstop. I try to wait it out before just leaving the server, anyway to fix this problem?

Uninstall Atomic, Reinstall it, see if that works. If not you might want to look into using some launch commands to fix it. Oddly enough worked for me.

I lag too at times, just the size of the map and all of the custom content.

If you don't know about it already, there is a way to improve performance on Garry's Mod.. Sometimes double the FPS.

Steam Library, right-click Garry's Mod, Properties, Set Launch Options, put '-dxlevel 80' without the quotations. It basically sets the Direct X level to 8 rather than 9 so it doesn't use the more CPU/GPU dependent features and other stuff that DX9 uses. No graphical difference though but some of the post-processing effects won't work with the lower version, as well as HDR.

Lower resolutions will help aswell, but I'd recommend not going below 800x600 as it messes up the GUI depending on the gamemode and/or server.

The reason it lags is the sheer amount of permanently-rendered postprocessing effects. Normally said effects are phased out when you're not looking at them but the creator of said map was a graphics whore and so yeah.

There's no way around this unless we/the author edit Atomic to not have said effects. It's primarily the skybox.

Post processing is client-side. It can be disabled by any player. DX 8 even forces them off. Atleast things like bloom, etc.

Not in this case. I run on DX8 and cannot turn off the PP in the Atomic Skybox. It's like the Phong shaders. i'd love to turn them off but can't.

The map has been used by TRP since the dawn of time. Unfortunately, map making has changed since then and people who don't have computers to run those maps just plain can't without fps drops and crashing. I feel like this map plays worse now than it did a year or so ago, though why is beyond me.

Nowadays people don't always put lots of Post-Processing directly into the maps just so it's playable for the majority of players.
