Do you listen to professional historians? I have never read any credible academic who argues anything other than that the Confederacy was founded to defend slavery, and everything else was just an after the fact justification.

Also, not to be too glib but your assessment of what is or isn't racist in this particular case is kind of worthless, given that the actual targets of Confederate and neo-Confederate racism (black people) repeatedly and publicly say that it is. You'll struggle to find anyone but white people who are either naive or racist flying the Confederate colours.
