Final opinion on specs before purchase of new PC

Yeah, which is what I figured. My knowledge lessens in terms of sockets. I understand the concept, however, should I have gone with an 1155 instead of my 2011?
 
Yeah. At the moment 1155 works for both Ivy Bridge(3rd gen) and Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) and likely the next gen too.

Almost forgot, if you want to save a tiny bit of money but still get a damn good case, look into Cooler Master full tower cases. They're generally pretty good, and would likely perform just as good as the case you have selected, but for about 100 USD cheaper.

Are you intending on overclocking at all? From reading your thread, I just assume you don't have a lot of knowledge in it, but that could be wrong. At any rate, if you aren't going to overclock, drop the heatsink and thermal compound. You won't need them.
 
No, don't drop the heatsink and the thermal paste. Guy above is full of shit.
 
Regardless of overclocking or not, the processor has no stock fan. Besides, I already ordered.
