Friend of mine was wondering if anyone knows where to find uploads for Ep1/Ep2 content?

Theyre having problems playing our SRP maps with errors such as grass / terrain textures and other models etc.

Extract the content from your GCF and upload it for him. He can install it as an addon.

Quick with the disclaimer lol!

someone's gonna paste this, might as well be me? i'm surprised everybody doesn't know by now since people have been doing this for years, although this site isn't years old, but it's original was

http://cscheater.era.ee/ click "garry's content"

This is not illegal or so because the content from here is just content, it's doesn't give you the ability to play an actual game listed here, it is just meshes, textures etc from these. So no problem here.

http://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/7745800/

Includes Textures, Sounds, Models, Particles and Maps from:
-Half-Life 2
-Half-Life 2 Episode 1
-Half-Life 2 Episode 2
-Counter-Strike Source
-Day of Defeat
-Portal

Downloading the content you've provided most certainly is illegal, even in those countries that only decriminalize the distribution of copyrighted content since using peer-to-peer technology, you're still going to seed and provide others with the files you're downloading (unless you're a total scumbag and restrict your client from seeding).

It'd work, though. Not that I'd officially recommend it, especially since the Orange Box only costs 7.49 GPB (or 10 dollars if you're fortunate enough to live across the pond), but it'd work.

Yeah, this isn't a great idea. If someone wanted to hurt the community they might just link the authorities to this thread.

Considering TnB distributes plenty of copyrighted content including not only models and materials, but also music which is much more strictly protected and more frequently sued-over, it is a little bit silly to suggest that this thread would cause issues.

Regardless, I've already informed the internet police about this.

Not like anything could be done. I'm pretty sure the game engine's coding is what's coyprighted, and the box art and the titles.. not individual textures lol but I'm not a lawyer. Either way, nothing will happen. That was kind of goofy of you to even say that.

I just thought an explicit statement saying "this server endorses piracy" - the OP - is probably more harmful than Dave's head-hacked models, reason being that the models require at least a modicum of effort to identify where they've come from. Although it's evident to us where the models came from, a lawyer would presumably have to determine if the texture was stolen and not merely based upon the likeness, most likely by comparing texture files.

"Downloading EP2 content without buying the games"

How more unsubtle could you get?

Copyright is obtained automatically. You can register it to reinforce your claim, but as long as you can prove that the work in question is yours, you can take legal steps against illicit reproduction and distribution thereof; derivative works (such as Dave's models) would be covered as well. Of course, the companies who own the copyright on all those textures and what-not are unlikely to sue over a couple of headhacks - unless they're Bohemia Interactive, those guys actually did send out cease and desist letters to people porting their models to Garry's Mod in the past.

Source is open-source technology, is it not?

The Source engine is property of Valve. They chose to make parts of it available to the modding community under certain conditions, but they still hold the copyright - also, keep in mind that open source merely indicates that the source code may be examined without requiring reverse engineering to take place beforehand, not that the software in question is free or freely available.

Ok I'm about to open up a can of aged ignorance.
TnB isn't selling anything it's using the stuff for, the stuff is allowed to be used and modified in order to create community-generated content, which valve encourages highly. Dear Esther was a source mod, and they actually ended up selling the game at the end. Now for sure they had valve's approval because the game ended up on steam, but in my opinion whether you download the textures, models, etc from a website, or acquire them from years of connecting to various servers where the forcedownload gives you a couple (maybe a couple were on the map youre downloading, or whatever, i mean.), should not make a difference. I don't think valve minds these things being shared. From one point of view, sharing these things and downloading them is promoting user-made content and keeping the community of modders alive. If more people have access to it more people can use it and ultimately more people will. Fewer people having these things (or being charged for them!) means fewer people playing custom modes like tacoscript because if they can't see or use half of the content, why would they play?
