Donation question.

I'm planning on donating to get a model (or weapon, I dunno yet). Although, I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. If I donate for a model, could I change my current character model to that model? And if I donate for a weapon, do I just get it on that character?

The best thing to do is PM Dave Brown, he will go through the whole thing like he did with me.

Once you donated for a model, after about 2 weeks or so Dave will add it in. You go in game, look through the "TnB Donator Models" addon and find your model, then copy the path (right click model's face -> copy). Contact an admin in-game (/a), give them that path. They will then set your character's model to that model.

As for guns, some admins have been known to just spawn one in for you, but you're supposed to obtain it through IC means; scavenging, looting, etc. I think, I've never donated for a weapon.

As for donation models: Keep in mind some (or many?) models are private and restricted to various people or just one user - contact them and see if they allow it (there is a list somewhere in some thread) or pick one that is public.

Or try to find your own model somewhere and get it into the game, thus adding another new one.

On the weapon's side of the whole donation fiasco, I've been told that you need to trade in for a weapon.

Unless that's not the case anymore, most admins/players have told me that you need to have something of equal worth to the weapon you donated for. (Basically so it's not like, "Hey if you donate you can get a really good gun instead of actually working for it").
