Do admins still look at your steam overlay and files

What? It was never about admins being able to browse your desktop files, or something. It was about anti-cheat software that could see player's steam overlay, which was definitely possible as per the thread army army provided.

I've read that this functionality has been patched out of gmod now, so it's not like I'm afraid this is an ongoing issue. I just wanted to bitch about how terribly this was handled at the time.

At the time the thread by toast was posted tho the functionality didn't exist on server anymore. It was literally just an attempt to stir up drama

It wasn't. He was able to use it on me while running a then up-to-date version of gmod. Even if it had been patched at the time, I'm not sure that excuses it having been on the server in the first place, at least not if admins knew about it.

You're right it doesn't excuse it being on the server at one point as an "anti cheat" but like I said, at the time of the thread being posted all the evidence that both hoplite and tanknut had to offer pointed towards that it hadn't been the case for years, that's why it was weird to suddenly bring it up when it was history at that point anyways

This is also something I know just isn't true. He was only able to obtain it from connecting to the current TnB server at the time, and dig it out of the associated addons every player downloads when connecting. When he made his expose, it was a part of the active server. Neither of us could prove that at the time and it became a "his word vs theirs" situation. I only know Toast wasn't lying because I watched him find it in real time.

Toast's motives are a different matter. After what happened to Crossroads, I'm sure he had more on his mind than protecting tnbs playerbase. Personally, I think it's fair to say he was trying to swing back at TnB. That's not really important to my point though. He can both be vindictive and be right about admin abuse.

Dude if I ever wanted confirmation that this community is full of degens and weirdos all I'd have to do is turn the OOC timer off for like sixty seconds.

Even if we could, I'm pretty sure I speak for all of us in saying that we don't want to read your spicy steam chats and whatnot.

Please, everyone, for what's left in my dwindling faith in humanity, continue to do everything in your power to keep your private affairs and such far, far away from me.

screengrabbing seems to have been a feature that existed in many anticheat systems back in the day, and while im not very well-versed on what it did on tnb other than that people having their sweet logs leaked, there was a singular incident on lemonpunch ww3rp where someone was caught looking at mass effect porn, it was a very funny discovery, but this simply means you are always being watched and you have no privacy online, and you should be ready to accept it !

screen grabbing still exists it just can’t get your overlay now, it functions the same way a steam screenshot does for the most part

Also, contextualizing

i think its hilarious that the guy who made this thread hasnt been online in almost a week
Guy was clearly guilty of something it seems like. Thankfully Joseph Goebbels wasn't talking about raunchy images when he coined the phrase 'nothing to hide, nothing to fear'.

Stalin, on the other hand... well, you tell a dirty joke in his presence and you find yourself dead the next morning.
