hmmm...this or alien...this or alien....

Updated with a second story, expanded a little on the space station/Sprawl/Titan Station idea.
actually if there's a marker aboard the ship (which is usually the main source of infection), there's a marker signal, and that's what ultimately causes the "infection" (it's actually necrotic tissue being rewritten iirc)
infectors are the alternative, but the marker signal is enough. that's how, for example, dead space 2's outbreak started: a cult committed mass suicide in the range of a marker signal and boom.

:3c
Going with this might be a good idea, and with the map I have in mind/have been looking at, it's very much possible for there to be something Marker-esque aboard the ship. It also allows for a lot more diversity when it comes to the Necromorphs themselves, because from what I've seen and am aware of, different parts of the human body turn into different necromorphs - for example, the Infector is formed of the torso and legs of a deceased human, and only that.
I think I'll just bring in Polcutt as a medic or something of the sort. Have him die and come back as a necromorph. Idk. Just thinking outloud
Polcutt's dead, he'd be a necromorph. Alien creepy crawly.

get this out of suggestions and put it in the events thread

i added some more shit

also, fuck bb code. i can't for the life of me fix that fucking glitch.

Setting: 2508 or 2503 - Aboard an, as of now, unnamed Planetcracking ship, or possibly (if we went with an alternate timeline for the sake of rp) the USG Ishimura.

Duration: A few days at most. I don't imagine it'll take long for people to get slaughtered by necromorphs. or to actually fulfill the objective.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=215442220 - Necromorphs (I think we should use PAC to either bonemerge these, or just use the monstrosities from the The Thing PACs.)

This is only some, still finding more.

Dead Space
You, and your crew, are aboard a small, independent cargo shuttle - out in space. Crazy, right? But, it gets weirder. Whilst travelling on this shuttle - the comms system picks up a strange signal - broadcasting a repeating SOS message. It doesn't give you any information, it's an automatic repeating broadcast.

This is the [insert planet cracking shipname], and we're in need of assistance. We're broadcasting on all channels within the frequency. Please respond. This message will now repeat.

So, can you guess what the (totally smart) pilot of your shuttle decides to do? Yep, that's right. Respond to the frequency.

-------------
With what I have imagined, the story will follow two different groups - the survivors, and the boarders. The survivors are a group of people that have survived the events aboard their ship - they're alive, and they know of the alien-undead threat that lurks the halls of their workplace. They've survived on this ship for two WHOLE weeks against these monstrosities - hiding out in the security quarters, with the doors locked down tight. Over the two weeks, your numbers have drastically dropped - more and more of the survivors are forced to venture out of the safety of the security quarters in search of supplies - food, water, things that are needed for survival, as the survivors hopelessly wait for some form of rescue.

...and that's where the second group comes in. A large cargo shuttle, not fit for the perils that they're about to unknowingly face, board the ship in search of whatever caused the SOS signal to be broadcasted. The exterior of the ship looks fine - undamaged. Why? Because the real trouble is inside of the ship - the necromorphs, but that's a story for later - and the boarders are here to help with that.

I can imagine this ending in three ways - some less fulfilling than the others.

1) Everyone dies!
2) The two groups work together to destroy the ship, taking the necromorph/alien-zombie-hybrid infection with it!
3) They get the survivors and get the fuck out of dodge!

There aren't many other ways an event in a setting like this can end, is there? Although, I still think that the event can be fun because of the setting. Aboard a spaceship with dwindling power, darkness filling every corner, hiding the undead-alien monstrosities that dwell within.

Let's give a quick rundown of the way that necromorphs would probably have to work.

"Necromorphs are mutated and reanimated corpses, reshaped into horrific new forms by a recombinant extraterrestrial "infection". The resulting creatures are extremely aggressive, and will attack any uninfected organism on sight. Necromorphs are the main antagonists of the entire Dead Space franchise."

"Typically, the infection is passed to new host bodies via specialized Necromorphs such as Infectors or Swarms."

So yeah, necromorphs are fucking terrifying. They sound like knock-off Xenomorphs from Alien-- and no one would blame you if you called them that, really. Here's a picture of a basic, run of the mill necromorph:

Gross, right? Now, imagine four of those things scuttling down a corridor towards you at an alarming rate whilst you're busy shooting the three that are coming at you from the other side of the corridor. Yeah, not a fun time. There are other types, too, which make it all the more fun!

Although - I reckon these monsters of death and disgust would best be played by people, rather than NPCs, and there are models that support that. The issue is that it would probably need PAC for the models and movements to seem natural, or actually seem like movement san undead alien creature of death would make.

This might be a bit tricky to pull off due to what it'd entail. You'd need people to play necromorphs, and people to fill in each role - and I imagine that we'd only need one or two more people than there were in The Thing. Eight man shuttle crew, ten survivors, and seven people playing the necromorphs - except, they'd appear in different places to try and kill everyone that isn't one of them.

The necromorphs would probably have to either do a lot of running or be TPed to spots in order to create tension and attack the people aboard the ship, and they'd have to play necromorphs of different types to keep it all interesting and new, and difficult. People in this event will probably die, because it's a very harsh and unforgiving setting. However, unlike a Zombie RP or The Thing, you might not be able to "come back" once you're dead unless you're killed by a specific sort of creature.

...but where's the fun in that, huh? Bending the rules and lore of things for RP is something we do in all of TnB's settings to make it more fun and more inclusive for everyone involved - so we can easily say that all necromorphs have the ability to infect people in order to make sure that everyone gets a chance to play the roles that interest them, and so that they can continue to play even after their character's demise. I think that'd be a nice way to do it.

When the event starts, it'd start on the map with the Boarders having just arrived, and the Survivors already aboard. From there, everything that happens is entirely IC - the searching, attacking, finding - whatever happens, happens. Hopefully, the two groups will end up finding each other and interacting, and then work together to achieve a mutual goal - being it getting the fuck out of dodge, or destroying the ship and the necromorph infection with it.

For this one, it'd include surviving ship staff and then the boarding crew.

There could really be any amount of survivors, but we'd still need Necromorphs. For the survivors of the ship, so that there's a variety to the roles, I reckon their should be:

  • Captain.
  • At least two members of the medical staff, if not more.
  • A few members of the Security team.
  • A couple of engineers (at least two).
  • Researcher(s) that researched and looked at the on-board Marker.
  • A janitor.
For the boarding team, you wouldn't need as many varying roles. It'd be a much smaller crew, too, ranging from 5 - 8.

  • Pilot.
  • Co-pilot.
  • Medic.
  • Engineer.
  • Comms man person man.
  • Security man!

The Station
A space station has gone dark - imagine that. After a brief broadcast came from the station, (unnamed as of now, possibly The Sprawl/Titan Station) EarthGov sends an eight-man crew to the station in a shuttle - not only to scout, but to clean out anything that may be inside of the station. Of course - this crew was not told of what was in the the broadcast. Maybe they'll find that out whilst aboard the station...

Nonetheless, the EarthGov cleanup crew have been sent in with the orders to kill everything and anything aboard the ship - not an unheard of order, they've seen it in place before, but for some of this, this might be their first time acting under those directives. Unsure of what to expect aboard, the shuttle lands and the crew boards the station, unaware of what's inside.

--------------------
This one's similar to the original idea, except it allows for a bit more fighting to take place in the RP. Just like with the original idea, when the boarding crew boards, there will already be a group of survivors aboard the station - tucked away in a corner, trying their best to survive whilst alien-zombie-demon-hellbeasts scratch and claw at their door, trying to get inside.

As with the last one, there's really only around three possible ways for this to end - but with the map that I'm thinking of using for this scenario rather than the other one, it allows for a lot more expansion on the story and lore into what makes people turn into these abominations, what makes them turn, and why they turn.

We'd probably need about the same crew for the station as we need for the planet cracking ship from the first scenario.
  • Security.
  • Medics.
  • Janitors.
  • Engineers.
  • Scientists.

The rest can just be general workers or shop workers, consider the sprawl is an entire station and we can easily base it off that.

For the boarding crew, it'd just be Earthgov agents/soldiers/security. The only difference for them would be the ranking and possible medics.
I like it but could we start as the Colony on the planet and escape to the ship carrying one of these necronorphs and crash inside the ship since that was how it initially started there.
