Ok Ive been trying to get back on track with mapping rp_pripyat countless times over the last few weeks but every time I boot up Hammer it gives me some bullshit about the gameinfo.txt not being found. (FYI this is a little text file that describes all the mods you want to mount in your mapping session, for example I mount hl2,ep1,ep2,css but not l4d / portal and all that shit)

Someone suggested to me last night that there was a global issue that lots of people were facing, not just me.

Now Ive checked around a bit but cant find any other stuff about this, tried remaking the gameinfo.txt but it still cant be "found" when I launch sdk.

Any ideas?

I can help you out. Add me on SF? Could do it via the forums as well, but I'd wager SF would be much quicker.

Got that problem too. I found you can sort it by going into the /bin folder of the game you want to modify, in the common folder, and double-clicking on the hammer.exe.

launch it using hl2 for example and copy all your ep1 ep2 css content etc into that games folder

theyre in the new .gcf things, if you want to open them you have to get the *name*_index.something ones

launching hammer through the command line also works, google it

That's no longer necessary, actually - the 2013 SDK has a built-in mounting functionality for gcfs, which is reasonably easy to use, saves you some HD space and greatly decreases loading times as well.

Yeh im not just gonna copy all the content over thatd make a right mess.

Ill speak to you on SF

To be more specific, go to common/Half-Life 2/bin and run hammer.exe. It'll give you the option to modify Half-Life 2, Episode One, and Episode Two.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

This is the answer, problem solved.

Dave's already had his answer, aye - for everybody else still wondering though, go check out this guide. Not only will it solve any issue you may have with gameinfo files but it'll also get you started with the 2013 SDK complete with clean and efficient custom content mounting and what-not.

Valve ditched Source SDK as a platform of bringing the separate tools together so you need to go digging through your game folders now to get to the tools.

Well dang. HLMV still seems to work at least through the usual method.

Anyway, all sorted.
