I'm getting awful connections on CS:GO. My ping is usually fine, but I rubberband like crazy every few seconds. I'm running on a wired network. I've forwarded my ports to my router. The only thing I can see that's wrong is when I ping things in cmd, every 4th or 5th packet or so has, on average, a 600ms latency. CS:GO is the only game I have where this is an issue.

Ping in CMD:

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I had this issue last year when I started playing, re-installing a couple of times seemed to be the only fix for me.
The only stuff online relates to people with wireless connections that experience rubber-banding, there's hardly anything for wired connection problems.

yeah that's what i was thinking too, but i didn't want to post incase i sounded dumb

idk what you're running on here but if it's wireless that might be the issue, if possible try and hook it up with a cable and see if there's any difference

id say there's a possibility that it's the isp, but the high ping packets seem too put apart to be anything from that end

if you have UPnP enabled you shouldn't have an issue with ports, i believe - my ISP gives me an option to use an 'Any' inbound service so i can't speak for certain

Is it like stuttering?

Like if I'm running in a direction, I'll teleport backward about 2 meters every now and then. People teleport forward. Hits don't register. People say I just stare at people when I'm mag dumping into them.

If pinging google does that then something is definitely fucky. Do you have a new router or an older one?

it could be a number of problems. assuming you've already tried the regular steam fixes (verifying game cache, reinstalling the game, etcetera), it's likely unrelated to the game itself -- albeit the fact that it only does that in csgo sounds suspicious. if trying to fix it by playing around with the game itself hasn't helped then i'd suggest looking in to your internet connection. it could be old ethernet drivers, the ethernet adapter/cable being faulty itself, perhaps shitty router settings. try and reset your router to the default settings or change out the hardware if you have that possibility (and perseverence), or if it's a locked router, call the isp to manipulate it from their end. if nothing works, i'd just send in a steam ticket or make a thread on the csgo subforum whilst simoltaneously reporting the problem to the isp. doing that from the get-go might be a good idea, you'll get the problem solved asap.

but hey i rarely work with IT so it might be beneficial to wait for one of the mega nerds to post in the thread

If he's getting 800ms every few packets while pinging google something other than csgo is definitely amiss. I'm no network expert though so I can't really properly diagnose it.

If you're playing on steam servers (competitive, etc), this problem has existed for a while. One of the companies that hosts the servers (can't remember the name in particular, but they host for TF2 and the problem is present on those servers as well) just plain sucks. I have the same issue all the time in comp matches and its turned me off from CS:GO multiple times because of it. Just a luck of the draw when connecting and playing.

word. ill try calling my isp. this problem happens if im doing wired or wireless so i dont think it's the ethernet cable itself. my computer is also only a few months old so im p sure it's not network drivers

How new is your router? Did the issues begin right after you replaced it and if not, how long after you replaced it did you notice the issue? What games have you tested with?

isp is your best bet at this rate then, if you're pinging google and it flares up like that it shouldn't be the server providers for comp matches

To double check if you have any packet loss go to www.pingtest.net and it'll show you.

It's not packet loss, it's packet latency, as said in the OP.

I've determined that it's not my ISP as my other machine doesn't have the issue. All my network card drivers seem to be up to date, so I'm kind of at a loss.

i refreshed my computer and that fixed it

time to reinstall everything

fuck you guys

The lag is the natural process of the game telling you that you're bad.
