It's a well known issue, mostly due to the shitty script the HL2 servers are on and loads of custom models.
You can try running the map in SP and then joining, but as far as I've experienced, the only way to join a server is to keep trying.

Clockwork is just eyecandy and heavier than TS1 I believe, just like most of kuroscripts.

Anyway, I have the same problem. Not our computers. What the SEAs need to do is have an activity thread for donator models. Whoever is inactive will have their model temporarily removed until they rejoin. Or screw custom models and just use custom textures.
