getting a new screen to replace the 11-year old 60hz VGA-only 1600x900 screen I've been using for the last five years and I've decided on going for a 24inch 1920x1080 resolution screen. I've been left with two choices so far - an LG 24MP59G 75hz IPS vs a ViewSonic XG2401 144hz TN screen. I intend to use the screen with my PC via DisplayPort but also double it up with my fiancee's switch/PS4 on HDMI

Specification Gigabyte GTX 970 3.5GB i5 3570k at stock 3.4GHz speed and 2x8Gb 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM

At first I was leaning towards the ViewSonic at 144Hz with its speakers as a bonus, however, I've heard much of IPS screens and their better colour presentation and given the LG matches what I was looking for I'm a little torn. Also heard the XG2401 has good colour presentation for a TN.

I play a bit of CSGO/Rising Storm and Rising Storm 2, Squad, CK2, Witcher 3 and so - I'm not out for competitive play. I also intend to play through the Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5 next year on the specs I have. I'm not planning to seriously upgrade anything in the near future as my machine runs everything at a satisfactory level at the moment. Will it be worth the difference between 75 and 144hz?

You can definitely notice the jump even from 60 to 75hz. 144hz kind of spoils you even just working around on the desktop because it's so smooth. Everything else will feel choppy afterward. It'll be great if your hardware can get games close to 144fps to really see it pay off

i had the exact same cpu as you when i initially upgraded to a 144hz screen. Its definitely worth it but be mindful of your cpu. You probably wont hit the full fps on games like Witcher, Squad ect at higher settings.

First day of my new monitor I felt motion sickness when i went from 60hz to 144hz tbh

CPU probably won't get an upgrade for a bit but I can drop some settings as a compromise. Either way this is going to be an upgrade for me as I've never known anything better. Even 75-100hz would be a difference for me.

As far as the IPS v. TN argument goes which am I more likely to get better use out of?

your fiancee wont benefit or lose out on either screen seeing all consoles are 60fps at best depending on the game. I played Siege on your CPU with a 1070 and 8GB of ram and i could get a solid 100 fps on medium settings. I'd say future proof yourself and get the 144hz monitor.

those screens have higher response times

I'd prefer the option of using DisplayPort and something with a higher refresh rate than 60hz if possible. I was hoping for something closer to 120 but I imagine that's a stretch.

Why do you want to use a display port? That's only useful for 2k or 4k resolutions otherwise HDMI is more than alright. I upgraded from a 60hz monitor to a 75hz with Freesync and I don't see any difference. I also doubt that you play professional gaming to need that extra FPS + response.
Buy a normal IPS 60hz monitor, don't spend too much money on irrelevant features, the ones you will need are with GSYNC and are expensive as hell.

DisplayPort is the superior video output don’t @ me

Superior in what? Shape? Look? Feeling?

It's only useful cause it can pull much more efficient image / sound transfer on 2k or 4k resolutions, it's a complete waste on normal 1080P.
