"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3;16

If any of you young men headin’ west are unlucky enough to find yourself halted in your tracks by a rush of pounding water, right in the middle of Colorado, know that you ain’t the first to be in such a predicament. You’d do best to start heading north, and if you’re following the main trails, you soon should start seeing mountains wrapping around the landscape. Head north for long enough, you’ll find a shallow valley full’a nothing but sand, rock, and the people wacko enough to call it their home. Welcome to Grimrock.
Official records mark down the settlement of ‘Grim’s Rock’ in 1826, but Ol’ Smokey says his grandaddy was among the first to settle this dusty hellscape, ‘scuse the language, in 1821. Folk tend to take his word for it.
Present day Grimrock ain’t fare much better than back when, though. Only folk we ever see passing through are just looking for ways to cross the Colorado River, or they’re headin’ Augersville, the other settlement just beyond the bend there. It’s a damn shame too. Grimrock’s always deserved better than what she got. Folk here are quiet, descendants of those who first jumped the broom in this here valley. Ain’t no Jaspers, Trouble-Makers, Painted ladies, Banditos, or even Raisers. We’re just folk lookin’ for reasons to see the sun each mornin’. We-... We’re good folk. We are. We just tend to let the world come to us, instead of heading out into it. And boy, did that world ever come screeching into town as of recent...

Everything started ‘bout a couple of days after the execution of Nathaniel Freeman, using the old gallows we got. Sure, nobody felt comfortable executing a boy so young, but what were we to do? Let em’ get away with assaulting Maybelle Robins and her daughter? We just couldn’t let that sort of thing slide. I ‘member that everyone was real quiet after it happened too. Like we were trying to save face after we put a thirteen year old boy to the rope. Suppose we failed in that regard. Cause that’s when everything started to happen.
Around town, same things on everybody's mind. This is it. The end times of come. Judgement Day.
(Ignore the headcrabs. I couldn't fill the street with that many ragdolls, so I had to compromise)
Course Father Remington’s been preaching about Judgement Day and Rapture and the likes since he was old enough to read his bible, but it stands to reason that the Good Book’s version ain’t quite like ours, it seems. Holy men ascending to Heaven, a peaceful slumber for the others… Ain’t exactly happen yet.
I know we ain’t sinners. We ain’t. And by Jimmy if the Lord’s considering us sinners for defending ourselves from the rapid shamblers and other threats he threw our way? I don’t buy it. Are we just supposed to keel over and watch as Grimrock burns? We’re not gonna let that happen. We’ve always been a quiet bunch here, but it’s high time we get loud. The Lord’s testing our might I reckon. Let him, I say. Ain’t no plague, flood or invasion gonna bring us down. Here's what we're gonna do;
We’re gonna bury ‘em deep.
We’re gonna bury them deep…

Setting: The town of Grimrock, Colorado, in 1852. Setting in terms of theme is a ‘Christian Fantasy’ esque tale, focusing on combining biblical mythos, with the quintessential parts of a good wild west story.
Duration: 3 days should suffice. I’m currently indifferent towards the idea of the server being open for passive between scheduled events, mainly due to the much more structured style of this RR (As opposed to something like Aftershock). Either way, the majority of the planned content would play out over specific times during the 3 days.

FAQ: (Or at least what I assume are going to be the frequently asked questions)
Basically, Christian Folklore is the stuff from the bible and other biblical sources that doesn’t exactly make the cut for believability. Like how most people will interpret Goaliath as just being a pretty tall guy, where in folklore he’s described as an actual giant. Folklore and mythology are quite similar, actually. Which ties into what a mythos is.
Think of Greek mythology. In most of the greek myths you’ve probably heard, there are certain features, characters, themes even, that remain consistent. All-powerful Gods living on Mt. Olympus, the prevalence of certain fantasy-esque creatures like centaurs, satyrs, gorgons, that sort of thing. The general groupings of all these things is what’s called a mythos; The generally agreed upon setting for these myths to take place. So in the Greek mythology mythos, centaurs are a real race of creatures, and generally live in the woods.
So the christian mythos is a mix of actual stuff from the bible, and the tales and legends that eventually came to shape it. Stuff like the presence of an overseeing God, dog-headed creatures, men with faces on their torsos, giants, Nephilim, and that sort of thing. I’m also planning on utilizing a tiny bit of material from pseudo-religious sources, such as the legends of Agartha and the Vril-Ya.

Me, to both of those questions. I’m not 100% sure on how all this RR stuff is going to work should this get accepted, and if I’d be handing this off to admin control, or would get to take centre stage in the project with a team of others. I’m fine with both, as long as I get at least some sort of input on the story details and planning and such. If I were able to spearhead this thing in an executive fashion, know that I would absolutely not back down to the challenge, and would be 100% to telling this story, and making this a fun and memorable roleplay experience for all.
Custom models take a lot of time, and we’d need quite a few to accurately portray the stuff I plan on doing. Stuff like dog headed people and Gibborium and others. It’d just be a lot of work when I think it would be much easier to just find semi-workable models, and just rp them as the final product. Same thing for participants models. There’s a surprising lack of Cowboy models out there, so while some people could get proper models, most others will probably just have to make due. At most we could maybe hex some cowboy hats onto our usual stuff, but I think it’s pretty safe to assume we’re gonna’ be running this with just basic civvies.
I think I’ve been careful enough to ensure that there’s going to be enough story threads for everyone. There’s usually a pretty strong focus on religion anyways in a wild west setting, and while I do amp that up a bit, I’ve tried to shift the focus of the RR away from focusing on religion itself, and more so towards Faith being one of the key tenants, if that makes sense. Faith will be challenged, gained, lost completely and restored depending on the character you’re playing and how they shape this world.
You can play pretty much anyone you’d like, as long as it makes sense for the time period and setting. I would assume most of you are going to be residents of Grimrock, but feel free to be visitors, strangers, or anything in between. The only thing I would maybe advise against is playing anything non-human. I think I’d rather leave that one to the admin team/Pre-informed volunteers.
All I mean by that, is that all of your characters are going to be a part of a central story that affects them all. This doesn’t mean you can’t have your own stories, conflicts, or whatnot. This also doesn’t mean plotpoints or anything similar that don’t contribute to the central theme are going to be immediately shut down. Adapting a structured approach is just a way of ensuring everyone gets the chance to experience the main action and plot, despite their ‘importance’ to the group or server or whatnot.
Plenty. While they share the same setting and the quirks that come along with it, ours are two fundamentally different stories. My larger focus on how faith is lost/gained, and the fact that... you know, we've got mythical creatures in a Judgement-Day-esque hellscape helps to make them pretty different as well.
