Secondary idea (After the mess I inadvertently caused with my other suggestion )

After the Battle of Endor, and the death of the Emperor within his second Star of Death (If at first you don't succeed, try and fail again?), the Empire grew into near total chaos. Planet after planet fell out of their grip, until finally the last of the organized Imperial Army coagulated onto the desert-world of Jakku. This would be the final stand of the Empire as the Galaxy new it, and with a final strike the New Republic Army and Navy were able to end Palpatine's Empire for good.

Now, I grew up on Star Wars. The first big movie I ever saw was Episode V (Unsurprisingly, also my favorite movie of all time). I've seen all the movies, watched all the cartoons, played most of the video games, and read too many of the books.

I also hold the unpopular opinion that the new Canon is far better than the old Legends (Come the fuck on, Han Solo wrestling a space-Otter?)

This battle is basically the Star Wars version of the Battle of Okinawa in real life. The last stand of a once powerful military force, culminating in a spectacular space and ground battle. An actual, fully fledged Star War.
