why does this happen on some dupes but not others? is there any fix for it?

I've gotten the error before for no discernable reason. It probably has something to do with the dupe being corrupted during saving and there's nothing you can really do to recover the information. It's one of the reasons why I always suggest people make saves every 15-30 minutes of building anything complicated-- you can go back and delete old saves once you've created your final version, and it prevents a lot of other issues (loss due to crash/user error/nosy fucking twats.)

Basically I suggest saving your dupe and trying it out straight away, or saving it multiple times.

i know this because 80% of my dupes consist of materialed objects (mostly phx plates)

Actually I had the same problem with a big dupe we made in rp_darktunnels and the problem was a lamp that was colored to be invisible.

I have plenty of dupes that are materialized but color seems to be a problem for me.
