“To race is to live. All the rest is simply waiting.”
Rudolf Caracciola
I wake in a cold sweat. I can only describe my surroundings like the inside of a swarming hornets nest. Our guys run, shout, and swear as they roll what’s left of my teammate’s ride into the garage. The bodywork tore open and peeled back like a wild beast had mauled it.
The horseshoe had run out of luck to give to the rookie.
“Rise and shine, hotshot, you're up in five.”
Bossman’s orders. We’ve found ourselves falling into a rut and I seem to be the only one on this team that can pull us out. At least that’s what the bossman thinks. I dawn my suit of armor, fireproof underwear and all, as my co-driver prepares to tag out of the fight.
What draws us to this beast? Every year men and women gear up, step inside their metal and composite coffins, and flirt with death… and for what? A trophy and some brand deals? No. It’s more than that. Winners here forever leave their mark on the brick and stone of this place’s foundation, remembered as one of the few who have conquered the beast.
Immortality.
They say that there are three deaths: The first is when your body ceases to function, medically dead. The second is when you are laid to rest, buried in the earth. The first two no man has ever escaped, death’s hands move far too quick to escape these. But the third death?
When your name is spoken for the last time.
To escape the third, man built a place where it was possible to outrun the hands of death. Man built machines fast enough to rip his mortality away from his soul. Created a beast so powerful that all who escape its grip are forever spoken of like legends.
Death moves fast, but man's machines move faster.
I stand on the wall, watching as the others try to outdrive their mortality. My radio chirps to life and I hear the call, my time has come. My heart races in my chest as the car comes into sight and screeches to a halt in our box. All hands on deck as they pull one of my co-drivers from the seat. The ambulance is waiting to take him to the medical tent for fluids. That crazy motherfucker used up every drop of gas in the tank and every fluid in his body to meet the mileage goals. I climb aboard my coffin and pull the buckles tight as the bossman slams the door shut, sealing my fate.
“Remember, ‘Iceman’: You’re on cold tires.”
With the reminder from the bossman I get the signal and pull out of the box. At first it’s quiet, the electric motors doing the heavy lifting of getting my fat ass moving.
I hear the beast howling my name, but now I have the means to respond.
A bump. A roar. The engine comes to life. Turn, cone, clear. I wake the monster beneath my feet…
…and drive toward immortality.
Welcome to 24, the first event on the TnB RR special event calendar. Teams of characters will be challenged to maintain a car during an endurance race. There will be plenty to do outside of the racing action, and events during the roleplayed race will force teams to form alliances with other teams to survive the night, or allow teams to backstab and sabotage each other for their own gain. How far is your team willing to go for immortality? Align, lie, loan, borrow, steal, fight, wreck, whatever is necessary to ensure your team’s success. This is the ultimate diplomatic/political RP RR disguised as a racing RR. I see you, CA mains.
(But if some of you want to drive the cars the whole time that’s cool too.)
CONFIRMED ENTRIES:
What’s a race without racers? While we encourage players to form their own teams before the event, the following teams will be available as “arrive and drive” teams for players that have not organized their own team beforehand to join:
BOYD MOTORSPORTS | LMDh , GTD
Brainchild of successful philanthropist and millionaire Lazlo Boyd, Boyd Motorsports are the team to beat in this year’s 24. Coming off of a fresh GTD championship last season, the team has expanded to add a LMDh car to their fleet. Mr. Boydd expects great things from his team at this year’s 24, and members of the organization are feeling the heat. The LMDh car was slow and unreliable in pre-season testing, leading the industry to speculate that Boyd has put too much on the team's plate... Good thing this team intends to eat.
NEVER RIGHT RACING | GTD
Old school racers with new school money, Never Right Racing is making a one-off entry to the 24. New investment from sponsors and the owner’s son taking over the family business has brought forth a new era for the team. Despite the internal turmoil within the organization surrounding the new leadership and direction being at its worst yet, this historically left hand turning oval racing team will try their hand at steering the wheel the other way in search of immortality.
RLM (Rex Lee Motorclub) | GTD
RLM has a history of doing whatever necessary to stand atop the podium. Bump and runs, pit maneuvers, rolling blockades, nothing is off the table for this team. The worst part? It’s working. A record number of podium finishes last season has set this team in its ways, and gained it a whole lot of enemies. Someone has to be the bad guy, and RLM is proud to be it. Word to the wise: if you see “Rexy” in your rearview, get out of her way.
DURATION:
24 hours. Ideally we would start on a Friday evening and end at the same time on Saturday.
RR RULES:
As a TnB special event, there are a few special rules/gameplay changes that will be enforced. Please roleplay accordingly.

RR RULES:
As a TnB special event, there are a few special rules/gameplay changes that will be enforced. Please roleplay accordingly.
- All time passed OOCly is time passed ICly. This inherently means there will be no timescaling, and no waiting for slow typers. 100 WPM warriors rejoice.
- There will be no NPC mechanics to keep things running while you’re away. If your car needs a repair, you will need to have it repaired by an actual character with mechanical/pit crew training. If no one is on, then your team must retire or wait for their mechanic to connect.
- All repairs will have a mandatory minimum emote quota depending on the severity of the damage. Please use /a to contact an admin for a ruling on your minimums on a per instance basis. (A special thank you to
Johnston for his input on this rule.)
- All race command characters will be granted see-all. A wise man once said, “You ain’t cheating, you ain’t winning.” And the house always wins. This shouldn’t be a surprise for HL2 players, as this has been an unwritten rule for years.
