Have you tried restarting the computer? Or reinstalling gmod?

Is GMod trying to run off of DirectX8? Idk how to figure that out but that's one of the known problems for this error.

Possible problems:

1) Running in an older version of DX (DX8 or older)
2) Some other application/software running when Gmod is running.
3) This problem: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5034-EIPV-6426

Possible solution?

Go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\yourUsername\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons\wire\settings\render_targets
Delete "WireGPU_RT_17.txt" through "WireGPU_RT_32.txt"
Unsubscribe and delete all wiremod files.
Resubscribe and install wiremod files.

This is all stuff I found from forums of others having the same problem, so no guarantee and be careful with what you try.

Yeah, also in Steam where you can tell the game to run certain codes, try doing "-dxlevel #" without the quotes, and replace # with any number between 78 and 82. However sometimes this can fuck with some of your binds/controls, but it's worth a try if nothing else works. The lower the number too, the uglier your game will look. So you have to find the sweet spot.

Goes from -dxlevel 70 to 98 actually, so I'm trying a few of the lower, and a few of the higher.

No success at <80
Ah, didn't know the range, so thank you. I'd imagine the higher you go the more punch it will pack to your GPU. If none work, the paged pool memory exhaustion may be a possible solution to try. Link here again.

Kinda confusing, but that is a DX error, so try messing around with DirectX. Any of the numbers in the 90s, uninstalling and reinstalling DirectX, or whatever you could think of.

Its a sign u need to spend less time on gmod

Hm. Do you have any windows updates waiting to happen? They may contain a later version of DirectX that needs to be installed. Also, I heard Alt+Tabbing can break some people's games.

E: Again, try installing this. It's a runtime of DirectX and won't change your existing version of DirectX you may have.

Updated, tried that directx thing three times already.

Also, that "fix" with the paged pool doesn't have a Windows 10 version up so it's not compatible. That looks like it might work, but it's a different process on this OS.
Not very sure then. I can't seem to find much more on the topic, other than the fact it has to do with DirectX. Can you paste the full error code? Most people reporting the same code have some string of text after it, e.g. CMeshDX8

Right, thanks.

I'm now seeing that some people are saying on Linux it is an OpenGL error, but IDK if it's similar on Windows.

Around 10-15 people saying it was fixed by closing/uninstalling Fraps, if you even have Fraps.

Last tip I have is to try going to your GPU brand's site and installing the latest drivers. I must stop here because I've come to a dead end and can't really figure out a solution.

Looks like I can't help you much more anymore.
When in doubt, transfer your important shit to a USB and factory reset.
I bet it's fucking Windows 10. 10 sucks.

If this is a windows 10 thing, update crap on your computer.

All my games had this weird red/green tinted coloring to them. Apparently Windows 10 decided my graphics stuff needed updating.

8 WAS OK.

SORT OF.

Yea.... 7 was the best.

I have 8.1, unfortunately. I am dying to go back to Windows 7, but too lazy to do so. And besides, there's nothing actually wrong with 8.1, just some crappy interfaces.

10 works fine 4 me just sayin

So from what I can tell this is caused by a few issues all combined.

One, Windows 10 is incompatible with many many many drivers until more updates are released.

Two, Windows 10 is especially incompatible with my good graphics card, forcing me to switch out to something low-power until I'm back to 7.

Three, fuck you Windows 10, you're a pile of shit and all you've done is break fucking everything.
This.

This is why I never care to get the latest OS, it is always a massive pain in the ass to stay current with drivers, signatures, certificates, keys, all that shit takes forever to catch up. In the mean time you're left with a Windows Franken-10-Machine that only works when Windows 10 allows it.

just reformat that shit already, you'll feel so much better if you go back to 7 (Not Windows 10).

If you built a performance computer you're cheating yourself by not using 8.1 instead of 7. 8.1 is far lighter than 7 and you get used to it quickly if you aren't just bitching about it to have something to bitch about. 10 is even lighter but I won't update to it until there's better driver support for it and such.
