I love S2K-oriented servers, longform, shortform, you name it. I was averse to the idea before I ever set foot into TRP2 and suddenly I came to the realization that I just loved the green eggs and ham that it was.

During TRP2, Dave added mechs as a result of a conversation I had with him about how cool Matrix Revolution's APU's were, and later on I joint-donated with several others to get the T-300 added which also resembled a mech. Early into TRP3's development, we had a working concept for a more faithful Harvester model made by erkor erkor and began to muse somewhat jokingly of the idea of doing some kind of Mechwarrior RR.

Fastforward to just a few days ago, and TankNut TankNut starts showing me some addon development he's been tinkering with on the side of a mech he was making (of which he has since posted in public development). Little did I know, he was involved in the production of a separate addon that brings the very early 2000s Xbox game that made me fall in love with mech settings in the first place into Garry's Mod.

I felt like a kid on Christmas.

The nicheness of this setting makes it hard for me to want to convince any kind of work done toward it, though, and certainly not any time soon as to not overcrowd our already burgeoning work load between ZRP3, Halo's CC2 testbed and other things, but seeing these addons makes my eyes twinkle in a way that I never thought I'd ever see manifest on this medium.

And now, a selfish part of me really, really wants it, so I began to wonder if anyone else would click with it as well. I know some people in the community do have an appreciation for mech stuff, namely Delilah Delilah and Nitra Nitra I know are deeply in love with the Lancer TTRPG, but consider this post an optimistic message in a bottle and less so a fully presented idea. I have no expectations or ambitions unless people really think it'd be cool to do, and I'd quickly get to work etching out the blueprint if that did come true, but I'm just as willing to accept the reality I may be one of maybe a handful that'd bite on this.

i think the biggest hurdle woudl be adequate maps for giant mechs to sell the scale and whatnot but god it would be so fricken cool

dancer currently frothing at the mouth gnawing at his restraints at the chance to write mecha on tnb

I fight my enemies, because that's what I'm paid to do,
I never hesitate to act or even think it through,
I'd retire any day, but I spent too much on guns and whores,
I ain't gonna drop no more!

yeah do it

slug slug should have @ me on discord I don't keep up with the forums consistently.
But yeah - I love mecha in all forms, and while LANCER is among my favorite TTRPGs there is a lot of other settings and custom works that I think would make for a worthwhile mini-RP setting. I don't know Battletech as well as some other settings, so a big question becomes - would you want to play more fast and loose with story, or try to stick to something established? I recall a few months ago the surge of "Endless Ice War on Europa" posts on twitter (which is getting an RPG release kickstarter using the FIST rules soon!) and I just think that something like that - a quick, easy to digest backdrop to a simpler RP that focuses on mech-based conflict - might be a good well of inspiration to draw on.
Please include me in whatever you might end up doing; leading the Dead Space RR with Nenko was a ton of fun, and while my schedule isn't great for running RRs these days I always love to contribute writing to projects.
I would definitely wanna make use of something that plays up a mixed theater sort of roleplay/conflict. Mechs supported by ground and air vehicles, with options for playing grunts on the ground - while still allowing anyone and everyone to hop in a mech if they wanted. Lot's of ideas to play around with. Im also curious what a full server of mechs fighting would look like.
sneaky edit - im not opposed to battletech/mechwarrior setting I just don't have intimate knowledge of it

back in the pit of despair you fucking creature

I would be interested but I feel MechWarrior/Battletech are best suited for non 'first person' roleplay systems, often text based rather than game based. Simply due to the way the setting works and the overall scale of the setting don't lend well to it.

As far as S2K, I got MWO for shoot stuff in a mech and while MWO is ran like shit I am still able to, if shooting is the fun part, build a mech that shoots exactly how I like (not that my laptop runs MWO, but the desktop should be back set up... Soon?).

I keep my roleplay and my shooting seperate bro, and unless you limit the setting to a single planetary campaign no in game system really works. I mean, ragdoll posing could work for S2RP NPC control but tbh 90% of what a mech shoots in cannon ain't a mech.

I miss my discord RP I had going on Battletech, till one of the leadership fucking backstabbed me.

Dont get me wrong Zombie, I love me a good ole anime mech as much as the next person but I do have a special place in my heart for Battletech.

That said I should perhaps at some point actually watch Gundam and Macross, now that have access to streaming services.

Note: if the community by all means wants an S2K mech server, they should go ahead and do it. I just ain't likely to come out of my self imposed exile/retirement for it (though it's clear I'm still going to post here even with little desire to return to Gmod. Guess the other community I tried to re-integrate with having doxrx photos of me still from 10 years ago made me think y'all's were still a better place to do casual chatter about roleplay with (and I still like a few of ya fun folks)).

When would you guys have this set/who would we as players represent, do you think? The MechAssault titles, albeit somewhat removed from the main Battletech canon, places the player in the ranks of Clan Wolf during the Word of Blake’s dominion over Terra.

I’m wondering if instead it might be interesting to set this during the Clan Invasion, and have one side represent the clanners and the other side represent the houses of the Inner Sphere.

honestly? doesn't matter as long as the gameplay loop is good

what i'd like to see is a quasi-cityRP with mechwarrior characteristics. a small town colony out in bumfuck wherever, with players representing mercenaries of all walks of life trying to make it in the backdrop of an interstellar war, hiring themselves out to monolithic opposing factions that are mostly portrayed off-screen/through event characters. give everyone the freedom to define themselves - to choose their benefactor based on ideology or pay (or both and then some) & end up on opposing sides of future conflicts by pure force of capital. blow each other up by day, meet each other in bars by night. make wagers on which side's winning the next skirmish and talk trash to the guy next to you about how you turned his Locust into a tincan last week. have him rob you outside to pay for repairs. start a feud. live by the mecha and die by the mecha

lore wise clanners v inner sphere is the most accessible to me just cuz i used to play MWO a lot. the other games i'm not familiar with
