If you think Toast wouldn't spread shit because he was pissed and wanted to cause damage you obviously hadn't seen how far he was willing to go if he felt wronged by something relatively minor lol.

Guy got staff on HL2 and one of the first things he did (I'm talking within two hours) was go back several months in the logs to find a specific interaction he had and kick off on Discord because a few of us stopped him from camping the rebel base on C24 to capture people his first day back on his Intel character in an IC way that made RP for him rather than just going to him OOC and telling him to leave. This was when we'd had 4 raids in 3 days and everyone was going to explode, so there was an agreement that the Combine keep away for a day or two so people could chill.

Imagine then what he was willing to do in the aftermath of his whole community crumbling in the span of a few hours over accusations brought out by TnB players and TnB itself "stealing servers" by putting something up he planned to do.

He was a fantastic writer but it didn't take a lot for him to get pissed.

It was addressed by both Bennet and Tanknut in a pretty hefty rebuttal post at the time. Other smarter people than me chimed in on that thread to confirm it didn't work how Toast claimed it did, including people who had no reason to like Bennet.

Hell, apparently Toast knew about this for years but didn't tell anyone. Why? Because he was in good. He had no need to. He brushed that off with "sorry it was a bad call" lol. He admits if he wasn't feeling spiteful he would have done nothing. The only other person to back these claims up was Anony - who coincidentally had been staff on Crossroads.

Is it any wonder why these two would have a vested interest in seeing TnB hurt on their way out?

I have a certain amount of privilege having been in the room both when he discovered it and tested it. It worked exactly how he said it did. He demonstrated it on me personally, so either you're wrong or he coded it himself and cooked up a hairbrained scheme to frame it on tnb, knowing how trivial it'd be to demonstrate that his cooked up version of the addon was never a part of the server. I see no reason why he'd have to deceive me to accomplish that.

Toast didn't know about it until shortly before his expose. But apparently Anony did? It was on a tip form him that Toast was able to find the addon in the downloaded files from one of the servers.

Like I said: I don't really remember which server it was from. It's not really an important point. It was definitely there, and you've admitted that much. I'm not sure exactly what there was to debunk. It was proven to me beyond any doubt that it existed and it worked. The only missing piece was if it was ever used in the way Anony claimed. I'm not really here to grind an axe from 4 years ago though. All the leads went cold pretty quickly and even Toast gave up the fight shortly after being banned, vowing never to return to gmod rp.

Maybe I just miss him.

i store my banking information inside my gmod bin/bin so i know tnb administration been running my debbie card
unfunny jokes aside tacoscript2 and combinecontrol were completely different gamemodes from the groundup and while zonecontrol is technically related to combinecontrol, it was modified by a completely different person who knows his passion-project pretty damn well.

if anyone's really worried about these addons till taking place, you DO know HLNA, CC, TRP, Eternity, and ZoneControl are ALL OPEN SOURCE and you can view their exact, finite contents, here?

I've read that this functionality has been patched out of gmod now, so it's not like I'm afraid this is an ongoing issue. I just wanted to bitch about how terribly this was handled at the time.

IIRC it wasn't that they could open your steam overlay at will. Rather, the functionality of Gcap made it so when you screen scanned a user if their overlay happened to be open looking at midget porn in the steam web browser then you would see their midget porn.

ye this is how render capture worked. it would grab everything including your steam overlay (if you had it open) it couldn’t force see it if you didn’t have it open at the current point in time
this was a really common thing with stuff that screengrabbing things because they generally used the same possible method to get your screen

Bennet, Tanknut and Gangleider burst into my house while I was playing HL2RP and knocked me out and stole all the valuables and copper wire in my house. I woke up with a big knot on my head and messaged Bennet and asked him why and he said it was because I had the HL2RP server open and they included a sneaky backdoor that gave them access to all the smart devices in my 12,000 sqft. house including the door lock. This is unacceptable and I hope the administration can do something about it.
