War. War never changes.
In the later half of the 21st century, war was a way of life. A common occurrence just as the past; the need for resources and territory. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: Petroleum and Uranium. For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the United States would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would evaporate into a mess of squabbling nations. All for the dwindling resources not yet mined.
In the year 2077, Nuclear Armageddon ended the struggling world in two brief hours; the planet was nothing but ash. And from the ashes of nuclear devastation, new civilizations would struggle to rise up. Those who ran into the safety of underground vaults, would be the ones rebuilding much of continental America. Yet not all were built as the survivors expected. Some such vaults were homes to undefined and even diabolical motives by Vault-Tec.
You, luckily, did not live in one such place. The year is 2289 and you live in Vault 7, a Vault that has endured semi-isolation for over two centuries. Other than a few traders passing through, all you know is the Vault as your home. Yet all of that is about to change. The rumors outside the vault say that Power Armored soldiers fight each other for some powerful super-weapon buried in Lake Michigan. The Midwestern Brotherhood, clad in devilish looking armor, and using airships fight against the last known remnants of the United States Government, also known as the Enclave. It's a war without morals. Those caught in the middle are not thought about for even a moment. Then again, when has war even taken into account the lives of the innocent? Just as before, war is fought for resources; Because war never changes.
Welcome to a little RR idea I drummed up over the years. We're in Chicago, the Windy City, the birthplace of some of music's greats, and most assuredly a target of a nuclear apocalypse. Chicago has been a place mentioned numerous times in the lore, but never explored beyond one offshoot game no one played. All we know is the Enclave calls Chicago a base of operations, and the Midwest Brotherhood is at war with them, and a Super Mutant army.
The setting takes place during Chicago's finest hour to date. The war between the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel, and the last holdouts of the Enclave is in full swing. The Wrigley building, or rather, the underground complex of the building remains the last known Forward Operating Base of the Enclave. The true HQ of the Enclave being NORAD, but without Chicago, the remnants of the American government would be left blind and without knowledge of the outside world. The Enclave's president Rupert Langley has been rumored to have been killed, and 'elections' are to be done soon for the new president of America.
Off of W. 55th street, at Chicago's Airport is where the Midwestern Brotherhood call home. Their advantageous position, as well as their use of airships gives them the superior tactical advantage; leaving the Enclave to use run and gun tactics and guerrilla warfare. Not to mention, the war with the super mutants never really ended. Even now, rumors across the city have begun to spin tales of an army on the outskirts of the city. It's been a few decades since the last army was defeated. And the death toll wiped out a generation.
On W. Adam's Street, a settlement known as Willisville, aptly named for being the husk of the collapsed Willis' tower attempts to avoid the conflict entirely. Obviously, a settlement of Ghouls would be the target of both factions. The Brotherhood's war against mutants includes those who have become ghoulified as well. Best be careful yourself. Enough radiation may lead to some limbs turning into raisins or even falling off...
Elsewhere, Notre Dame de Chicago represents the cobbled up remnants of the Catholic Church. The visit by Pope Pius XIV to America in October of 2077 wasn't exactly the best timing. The remnants of the Holy See resides here, and much of the mid-west at least know of, or is a member of the church. The power wielded currently by Pope Gregory XIX is notable, with donations and tithes filling the coffers of the church. Caps being the currency accepted by all.
The vaults in the area are as follows:
Vault 7 is a control vault that has gone beyond the required time of isolation. Without a GECK due to supply issues before the nuclear holocaust, the facility has no real way of rebuilding the outside world.
Vault 27 was deliberately overcrowded with a total of 2000 people assigned to enter (double the total sustainable amount). The vault opened in just 12 years, surviving longer than expected. Over 97% of the vault's inhabitants left, and many of the people of the Windy City descend from those who left the Overcrowded Hub.
Vault 53 has been abandoned for over a century, the inhabitants either dead or gone. The vault's equipment issues we're so numerable, it caused endless grief. But that was Vault-Tec's desire. The social experiment was to test stress levels of countless and endless technical issues. The technology there has been sacked, and all that is left, if you're lucky, is a few pre-war goodies.
Finally we have Vault 84. The Vault has stayed shut since 2266, but stories say the vault would open once a year to exile a 'traitor'. The question is, why haven't they done so in over two decades?
One final point. At least rumored to be in the area is Vault 69. But that's an old fisherman's myth. Supposedly it was filled with one man and 1000 women. But Vault-Tec wouldn't be that crazy, right?
Q: You're saying we're vault dwellers? But I want to do something else.
A: You'd be more than welcome to, but I wanted the first week to be distinctly different than other RPs. The idea of a bunch of TnBers roleplaying being stuck in a vault sounds hilarious. But also sounds like a social experiment vault-tec would be for. After the week, the vault would open, not on it's own volition but because of the war between the Enclave and Brotherhood. Either from the Enclave demanding recruits, or the Brotherhood raiding the vault for some technology. Haven't decided yet. Either way, at that moment, you'd be free to make a character of whatever you'd want.
Q: So, WewLad, this idea looks good, but we aren't able to do this without a dev.
A: I'm aware, I'm merely just sharing some fallout style ideas I've always been drumming up.
Q: Would Gmod be able to run this?
A: I don't see why not.
Q: Ok, I didn't read anything. What are the two main factions.
A: Midwest Brotherhood and the Enclave. The Midwest Brotherhood are basically the East Coast Brotherhood in Fallout 4. But Bethesda was too dumb to read their own lore books, so they just copied the Midwest Brotherhood and made F4's Brotherhood the same thing. And the Enclave are the remnants of the American government.
