Serious The Troubles

the difference with the vietnam rr is that while we have plenty of americans, we have little to no vietnamese people.
That and popular culture has already desensitised a lot of the real-life horror behind it through campy movies, comics, memes and stereotypes. Same with WW2.

You went into the RR and expected stereotypes and napalm and Ride of the Valkyries.

I have to say I disagree with how you two see it, but it's just me.
In my opinion, some of the best gameplay in games, or viewership in other media such as movies or television comes when a genre hasn't been broken down by popular media and culture, where the concept can flourish as its own thing, not yet perverted by popular opinion and all that. But, it's coming from an American to a Brit, so I'm sure you guys have a vastly different view to The Troubles than I do.

Even if trusting roleplayers weren't an issue, why is this something you want to roleplay? Why do you want to reenact this?

the difference there is that those games/shows/movies are being made by professional writers and large teams with tons of research behind them (assuming they're any good), which is extremely different from a bunch of roleplaying nerds online, many of whom are younger, immature and might not have much knowledge about the troubles (although ive heard of it, i still dont really get the conflict as an american).

you cant ever expect the same quality you get in professional media in a roleplaying server online, nor can you expect the same taste and correct handling.

If I was still an RR admin it'd be a No from me on this.

I had family involved in the army during the troubles and I have met others affected by the troubles still. I'd say " Not enough time has passed" for the matter to be explored.

I'm one believing in not being thin skinned but It's still too soon in my opinion.

ooh ahh up the ra

e: in more seriousness it might be hard as somebody who isnt irish or british to appreciate the gravitas of this issue even in the modern day and i dont think most of tnb could handle it maturely

Mate. I've had relatives do time in NI on the Brit side so my thoughts on the troubles are likely drastically different to Cat's so lets not even get into that. Without a doubt in my mind I feel this far too a complex or touchy subject to delve into. At least to us in the British Isles.

This might as well get a solid padlock.

i'll put it this way

was literally only last week or so when the papers were headlining a single british soldier being prosecuted for the massacre of bloody sunday

there's no world where nuance can be applied to what was the troubles, and i don't certainly wouldn't want to see it being tried at tnb

It's a little to close to home and very real for a good many people. As interesting an idea as it is, I don't see TnB pulling it off.

threads like this are why this section is kept open i think

plus what with this head admin Bennet guy being an irishman no doubt he might portray the british in a bad light i mean its not like we did anythin wrong tee hee...
