Hello all, hopefully this announcement doesn't catch anybody too off guard. It's no secret that the idea of closing down the server temporarily has been floated around recently and with receiving so much feedback we’ve ultimately decided to move forward with temporarily closing down the HL2 server in order to make several adjustments that would be too difficult to make with a live server with constant ongoing changes and advances in personal story lines/plot. We don't want to place a deadline for when the server will return just yet but we’re hoping the entire process won’t take longer than a couple of weeks. The official date of the server turning off will be this Sunday, or June 11th. You’re free to continue your roleplay as normal until then, there won’t be anything major occurring on the day of closing.

The issues with the server are obvious to most, even if we struggle with the solutions to them. Alongside the issue with the server itself however are the deep-rooted issues with the community at large that seem to be harming every single server we've launched in the last few years. These issues include…

  • Lack of visible guidelines for various facets of the server, including factions and general rules.
  • Lack of enforcement of administrative guidelines with both management and server administration, leading to several instances of unacceptable behavior slipping through the cracks. (This is on us and something we're going to correct moving forward.)
  • Repeat situations of harassment and toxicity either being ignored or not handled decisively enough
  • Unclear routes of progression in both IC and OOC roles muddies the waters in terms of what is or isn’t nepotism when it comes to the various roles on the server.
  • The need to reorganize how authorizations are handled and what the expectation is surrounding them, being exactly when someone needs to acquire one and what situations they don’t need to acquire one for. Going back to more open ended and common sense rulings that will simply require dealing with something on the fly should it not ‘fit’ the server.

We don’t expect full agreement with the server going down nor do we expect everyone to be happy about it, we just want to explain our reasons for doing so and express that in doing this we do believe it’s the best path forward in order to reshape and revitalize HL2. We’ll be reorganizing the administration team along with some of the faction management in both the CCA and the CA. More information on exactly what changes are involved there will be coming shortly.

Now, on to another issue. There's no denying that toxicity has run deep within this community at times and that same toxicity has also been fed into by management. Although things have generally improved at every level and is a much safer place to exist in than at times past there are still occasions where someone will go out of their way to rile someone up or otherwise harass someone for no good reason. This is going to stop. From this thread being posted onwards we'll be enforcing our policy regarding this sort of behaviour. No one should be logging in here to be the target of or the butt of someone else's joke. If you can't behave, argue or debate like an adult you'll quickly find yourself removed from whatever positions of authority you have and removed from the community if it continues. This extends to people trying to circumvent the censorship options on the forums and discord. They are there for a reason and trying to get around them will result in administrators taking action accordingly.
