We've got books. We've got movies. The trifecta is now complete with TV shows. Talk about what you're watching/your favorites/whatever.

    I've been watching Dexter recently:

I'm in the middle of watching Better Call Saul right now. Fucking incredible show, in my opinion it's even better than Breaking Bad. Saul and Mike were my favorite characters from BB and they're even better in Better Call Saul.

By far the best series I’ve watched on Netflix, season 2 is TBA. It’s a show set in the 1970s based off a true story. Two FBI agents investigate and interview known killers and figure out why they committed their crimes instead of how. It’s really interesting and based off the psychological aspects of what lead the killers to become what they are.

just warning there’s definently nsfw sex scenes, putting that out there because I didn’t know that and my very Christian roommate walked in right when it changed to one and I didn’t know how to explain what I was watching on tv

The Fargo series is good. Boardwalk Empire. Sopranos. The Thick of It. Deadwood. Santa Clarita Diet. Veep. Curb Your Enthusiasm. Fear the Walking Dead. Legion. The Leftovers. Peaky Blinders. American Crime Story. American Gods. Atlanta. Barry. End of The Fucking World. AP Bio. The Terror.

A lot more than that but that's a good selection of certified fresh TV. I watch a lot. I'd recommend each of them.

I'm pretty slow to catch up to shows and haven't seen many of the new ones actually, but these are some I enjoy. I'll put a notice next to the ones that are super old, cos they're still great

    Sopranos - Drama (old)

    Archer - Animated - Comedy

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Comedy

    Brooklyn 99 - Comedy

Alan Partridge (old) - Comedy - Hit and miss

Bob's Burgers - Animated - Comedy - Depends on the viewer

Red Dwarf (old) - Comedy - One of the best - Back to Earth sucks

Blackadder (old) - Comedy - One of the best - Season 1 is iffy

Shameless, because it's an eerily accurate representation of gentrification and lower-class living.
Narcos, because the Columbian drug war can never not be interesting.
American Vandal, because it's the most unique series I've ever seen, and I was fucking hooked.
Altered Carbon, because it's an interesting cyberpunk dystopia, which is a concept I was never really super enthralled with in the first place.

I also obviously recommend The Punisher and BoJack Horseman, but those are pretty well-known.

I guess The Walking Dead. The earlier seasons were amazing. It's pretty shit now and I force myself to watch it.

a miniseries the likes of band of brothers is more of a middle ground between a show and a feature film. not really a fair comparison

    e;

I remember seeing documentaries about this when it came out, really high production value, produced by Spielberg after his success w/ saving private ryan. the resources and direction for this are just not available to TV shows (at least before the streaming era), and the only reason this is a tv miniseries is because you can't expect a human being to sit in a theater for a 16 hour movie.

Fair enough, still though, I think it probably rivals the GOT budget and its still about the same length of most shows, which is why I reccomended it here. Since it'll take you the same time to finish this series as any other show and for sure worth your time

GoT is a serialized drama with several seasons though, so if it's the same budget then they'd have surpassed BoB' s numerous times over.

If you look at the awards BoB won, a lot of the categories read "in a miniseries or film". At the time it was released it was judged on the same metric as films and for its merits as a 10-part film. I made the distinction of pre-streaming age because that distinct line between those mediums is blurring when shows like Got, Stranger Things, Altered Carbon, etc have massive budgets and emulate big-screen features rather than small screen serial programs. Before, let's say Sopranos, nothing like this really existed and there was a whole different visual language and philosophy for t.v. productions, which demanded less attention from their audience. I'm on mobile atm but later I'll link a video that describes what I'm talking about
