Regarding DVI, VGA and output connections for Blu-Ray playback.

So I got a blu-ray drive for Christmas for my PC. My monitor is decent enough but only has three types of connection in the back, VGA, DVI-D and Line-In. VGA is choppy when it works on blu-rays, and sometimes it refuses to playback because the connection doesn't support the HD resolution.

My graphics card has VGA and two DVI-I connections. I know that DVI is digital as opposed to VGA's analogue, and that VGA doesn't have enough in it to carry through full 720p or 1080p images. I know that DVI output will probably be able to carry through proper HD resolutions without being choppy too.

My question is: Will the blu-ray quality be as good as a straight DVI connection if I were to just get a VGA to DVI converter for the graphics card outlet in the back of my PC? To save on money and the fuss of trying to find a cable that goes from DVI-D to DVI-I which seems to be rather frustrating, it'd be easier for me to just get a converter.

The difference between the two DVI types you mentioned is that DVI-D is purely digital and DVI-I is capable of both digital and analog transmissions - the D and I stand for Digital and Integrated respectively. Luckily, they are fully compatible with each other. Just buy a standard DVI-D cable (the one lacking the four extra pins DVI-I ones use for analog transmissions) and you'll be fine with none of the loss VGA-to-DVI conversion produces whatsoever.
