help!
My Seagate 1TB Expansion Portable Drive just isn't working. It's receiving power when I plug it in (tried w/ multiple USB ports) and will show up under my devices, but when I click on it in the file explorer shit goes whack and file explorer crashes. I have to plug it in after turning on my laptop because if I try turning on my laptop with it plugged in the laptop doesn't boot.

I can provide videos if needed. Should I try wiping it or something, maybe getting a new cable? I've been stationary while using it (I just use it for games) and haven't dropped it or anything.

I think your best bet would be to wipe it entirely and try from there first. It's likely some kind of software issue if its registering but just breaking everything.

Here's what it looks like when I go to the overview of my drives.

sounds like a software rather than hardware issue

u really shouldnt install software on removable drives because things can go wrong when they get unplugged/are missing during bootup, windows still expects the drive to be there
try it on another pc and if it works a format would be the easiest way to fix it

if not there is some deeper underlying problem in ur actual windows setup

idk what this means but I plugged it into my friends PC and we were able to see all the files and all but then it fucked up, this is what it looked like

it says i have a bad sector
HeLp

once a hard drive starts reporting bad sectors you can format it and it will work for a little bit but it won't be long before it fails again

when a hard drive has gone bad, it's gone bad. seagates are not reliable drives, anyway. my office keeps every failed hard drive in a big pile and seagates constitute the majority of the pile.

aw damn.
okay i guess i'll throw a new ssd for my laptop in my shopping cart eventually
thanks for the help

if i were you i'd pull what i can off of it and retire it, yeah
