A bit of a foreword: Hi, I'm Lambda, I'm the SCL for TRP and I've been very dedicated in my attempt to revitalize the setting and present it to you, the community. I appreciate those of you who've been following our efforts closely and I want to reassure you here and now that this PZRP is in no way going to take away from my work with TRP. I will be just as dedicated as ever to it.

However, current circumstances in the community make me feel that now is an opportunity to try some experimental roleplay, namely on different games. Those of you who've played Project Zomboid, or who just like Zombie RP, I encourage you to give this a try, maybe it'll fail, but maybe it'll be a memorable experience for our community, honestly I'm not sure, but I think it's worth a try.

The world has ended.

The death of society came and went as a bolt of lightning.

Some claim it was mankind’s hubris. Others whisper of Satan’s hand. And still, there are those who believe it was God Himself who cast us into this abyss.

Whoever unleashed this, they have vanished, leaving behind only us—the condemned. The few who have witnessed Hell rise from the earth and learned to survive within it.

Perhaps, one day, a new generation will be born. Their first breath taken in a world drowned in despair, baptized not by water, but by blood. They will never know the world that was, and yet, they will ask.

And we will tell them: This is how it began.

Kentucky, U.S.A, 2010.

It started in Louisville. First came the madness—a surge in violence, the twisting of minds—but soon we realized it was more than mere insanity. The dead would not rest, the living would not be spared.

The government tried to blind the world to the truth, claiming it was a bioweapon—a terrorist plague they could contain. They called it the 'Knox Flu.' But we knew. Our cries for salvation fell on deaf ears, drowned beneath their lies and false assurances.

As society withered, the quarantine came. A barrier of silence was raised, keeping us locked away, forsaken. The world believed we were sick, and that we would one day recover. But this kind of sickness had no cure.

Our cities became graveyards. Our lives became a test of endurance—faith pitted against madness, the living against the dead. The air filled with the stench of decay and the prayers of the hopeless, muted under the watch of a world that had turned its back on us

This is the tale of those punished by God, and forgotten by man.

Penitent Curse is a return to the Paroxysm setting. It will be set prior to the events of the original server, but run alongside the New York outbreak as well. While there will be no groundbreaking mods that are tailored specifically for Paroxysm, the idea of the Knox Flu being a cover up for the Paroxysm outbreak feels like a solid work around that allows the game to tie in well to the setting.

This is a SERIOUS RP experience, unlike prior TnB project Zomboid servers that were semi-serious at best, this will come packaged with text rp capabilities, events, and a story line that the players will be able to interact with and watch unravel over the course of it's lifetime.

Of course due to limitations with Project Zomboid there will be no pre-outbreak roleplay, and it will take place a few days after the 'quarantine', when society has begun to crumble entirely. There will be plenty of opportunities to play unique characters, and we encourage the creation of groups/character ideas ahead of time that are communicated to us so we might better facilitate them.

Finally if you're interested in helping run this project, feel free to reach out. As I said above, I am very involved with TRP and will need a lot of help to make this happen. Once I've confirmed beyond a doubt that this will be happening, I will create a subforum for it like any other rp server.

I started playing PZ back when the Knox map was a couple neighbourhoods, a main street and a high rise. The zombies looked like green aliens and NPCs roamed the map with Uzis who would shoot on sight. I only learned that people roleplay on PZ recently, and since the walking dead TTRPG is an unplayable piece of shit, I'm looking forward to playing this. How much would you say needs to be done before you'd feel comfortable launching this?

The greatest need is a team willing to take on this project. Then a good deal of writing for the storyline, events etc. Content is pretty much good to go.

I'm not trying to pour an excruciating amount of time into this given I'm also overseeing trps development. So I'd like to find some people willing to be the main driving force for this.

Two cents

Cent one: great that y'all are doing this. PZ is a really easy setting to roleplay in, as it takes the "hunger bar" issue of HL2RP and gives you a game to take up the time you'd otherwise spend not really roleplaying/looking for roleplay. However, sure to keep an eye on the issue that always happens in PZ servers among friends: one guy staying up until 4am to loot the entire map.

Cent two: I don't know if you are just using the "Paroxysm" name to appeal to an earlier server or if you are seriously intending to continue Paroxysm. If it is the latter, I must implore you to consider something else. Paroxysm is a fucking horrible setting. I don't know how many of you were actually privy to how horrible it was back then, but I speak as an admin from that time/server. There is nothing underneath the hood except for esoteric meta lore that players have no chance to interact with. If it's still archived on this forums, Toast posted the entire Paroxysm lore back after the server ended, so you are free to go look at it. My advice instead is that you come up with your own cool zombie outbreak lore, because Paroxysm fucking sucked.

I'm grateful for the support with choosing PZ.

To be upfront I never played Paroxsym. What I know about it is what I've heard and read and imagined. How the server actually went or was ran or how it's story was presented I'm not sure about in the slightest.

I'd encourage the community to look at this as a new twist on an old idea. I have some major thematic focuses I think can really make this take on the setting very unique and fun to rp in.

Almost all of the 80 mods are pretty small, it's very much a lite content pack compared to my last pz content pack which was 180 mods at 20 gb

E: and dropping Britas gun pack for vanilla expanded did wonders

I can make it happen. Rn the content is happily sitting at 7gb.

I'll send it right now actually so you all can get an idea and make suggestions as you wish.

Love seeing the use of vanilla firearms plus rather than a bunch of super epic tacticool AA12s and shit. That is far and away the biggest immersion killer for PZ servers for me

Also +1 on admins keeping an eye on groups of sweats minmaxing/ scooping up all the guns and gear on the server. Insanely effective way to ruin the fun for literally everyone else

Might have to give this a shot, I’ve always wanted to check out PZ RP
