Half life 2: Episode 2. "Engine Error, could not load library client."

Hello all,


Recently (read, some months ago) I discovered that my copy of EP 2 had a small, insignificant but really annoying problem.
Basically, everytime I try to load Episode 2 or a mod for that game, after the Valve logo the game crashes, the message "Engine error: could not load library client" appearing.


I've browsed internet for a solution, though, I found nothing.


I tried restarting steam.

Restarting the game.

Re-installing the game.

Doing some complicated stuff that didn't work.


Since here people often know what to do, I'll ask here.


Does anybody know how to fix this annoying problem?

I believe this happened when I incorrectly installed Cinematic Mod 12, if that could provide any help.

No mods installed. I cleaned up everything when I saw that nothing actually worked.

If you manually cleaned mods from HL2 then you might've deleted something vital for the game to work on accident. If that's the case, you'll have to reinstall.

the only problem alienware computers have is being prebuilt pieces of shit
