I am today aware of the fourm wipe but I was wondering is all the data from the severs still there ie... characters, items?

Server database and forums have nothing in common.

As Juri said, the Forum Database and the Server Database are two separate entities and do not co-exist with each other. This allows for the added security of one remaining up while the other is down.
