As more and more reports from the outside world come trickling in through the various remaining outlets of receiving mass media in New York City, a coherent image is slowly formed: a death toll in the hundreds of millions if not billions. Countless major cities, states and even countries nationwide collapsing under the nonstop onslaught of the undead threat. Society itself irrevocably changed, if it even dares to persist at all in the days ahead. The writing is on the wall if one has enough gumption to put two and two together: settlements all across the globe have faced better odds than New York City and met cruel, grislier fates all the same. The Quarantine Zone is not a safe haven, but a holding pen for animals lead to the slaughter.
Worst of all, mankind is yet to be dealt a killing blow, and the myriad survivor groups of New York City have yet to be given a reason to give up, keel over and die: television broadcasts, internet posts and hushed whispers speak of vaccines in testing, of successful quarantine efforts in flyover states and rural communities, and even pockets of life isolated from the now-lost large cities wherein life continues on with some semblance of relative normality. While it remains yet to be seen if these rumors bear any substance or fruit, the potential of death and failure becomes more and more preferable to the certainty of death and failure.
The subway system and maintenance tunnels of New York City, sprawling and vast as they are, are home to so many differing paths, entrances and exits that it is all but a foregone conclusion that there must remain some unobfuscated path out of the inner city therein. Eyes cast downward not only for refuge, but for revenge, with leads regarding the mysterious group of bioterrorists still active in the dying days of the greatest city on Earth likewise leading underground.
The way out is through.

We're in the home stretch now. ZRP3 can be expected to come to a close at the end of this month, with the final story arc taking place in the outskirts of New York City and detailing the survivors' efforts to escape New York City, pursuing possibly-vain hopes of a world that has weathered the arrival of the undead better than the big apple.
There will be a map change event this Friday, December 5, 2025 beginning at 7:00-8:00 Eastern time involving the survivors fighting their way through the tunnels and subway system of New York City, which will be portrayed by rp_metro_refuge. Depending on player turnout, staff on-hand and pace of the event this can be over and done with in the span of one night, or it can continue over into Saturday, December 6. On the other side of the event will await the outskirts of New York, represented by rp_asheville - the final map of the main story arc.
